Alva Kathleen LaPointe was born June 24, 1938, in New Orleans, La., to the late Joseph William and Dorothy (McDaniel) Reisgen.
She attended St. Mary Dominican High School, followed by Tulane University where she obtained a degree in education. She accepted a position at a U.S. Army base in Germany, it was here she would meet Percy “Pepe” LaPointe. A Louisiana native himself, they had much in common, and in 1965 they exchanged vows.
During Percy’s 20 years of service, she accepted a teaching position at each new duty station he was assigned to. She enjoyed “suitcase living,” she knew each new position brought on new experiences and opportunities.
As she was a diligent teacher to her students, she was also to her children. She invested in their lives and future; never missing an opportunity to aid them in their successes and to support them during failures.
Her hobbies included beading, crafting, and shopping-she never missed a good sale! She and Percy were members of Krewe de Feteurs, where they served as King and Queen on court, he also served as captain and she as president for many years. Did we mention she loved shopping? When her grandchildren came along, she couldn’t wait to find them the cutest outfits or toys to play with, caring for them as she did her children.
Upon Percy’s retirement, they returned to Lake Charles, where she taught English and was a school guidance counselor at Marion High, LaGrange High, and Maplewood Middle.
She was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, by her husband of 50 years, Percy LaPointe; her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Reisgen; a sister, Dorothy Reisgen.
Those left to cherish her memory; her beloved children, Laura (Cary) Aaron, Becky (David) Poor, and David (Chelle) LaPointe; grandchildren, Alison Poor, Michael Poor, Kerrigan LaPointe, Nicholas LaPointe, Madeline Foreman, and Adam Rankin; a sister, Judith Yochum; and extended family.
