The woman killed in a Thursday evening shooting near DeRidder was identified Friday morning by Beauregard Parish authorities.
Ashley Fish was found deceased in a home on N. Ridge Drive Thursday just after 6:30 p.m., after DeRidder Police responded to a call from a man saying he had just shot someone and believe they were dead.
Sheriff Mark Herford said Tyler Derochowski was identified as the caller, and that he turned himself in immediately to responding officers and was taken into custody.
When the call was first received, Herford said it was initially believed the incident occurred within city limits but upon further investigation. Herford said it was determined the shooting took place just outside of DeRidder limits and BPSO units responded to the scene. Derochowski was also turned over to BPSO investigators.
Derochowski has been charged with second-degree murder for Fish’s death. As of Friday morning, he remains in the Vernon Parish Jail, as the Beauregard Jail remains closed, with no bond set.
Herford said the investigation remains ongoing and declined to comment on the relationship between Fish and Derochowski, or a possible motive for the shooting.
