Best in class: Trail repeats as 3A MVP

The St. Louis Catholic girls and Madison Prep boys basketball teams each repeated state championship this year, with each team powered by a state most valuable player by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Myca Trail, a UL-Monroe signee, is the girls Most Valuable Player after averaging 18.7 ppg, 7.3 rebs, 6 steals, 3 assists per game while leading the Saints to a 32-3 record and second consecutive Division II state championship. Trail scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the finals.

The Saints have a second first team selection in junior guard Paris Guillory, who averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 assists per game.

Avery Young of Iota made the first team after averaging 23 points and 8 rebounds per game.

Girls Coach of the Year is Otis Robinson of Wossman. In his first year at the school, Robinson helped the Wildcats improve from seven wins to the state championship this season. Wossman defeated Madison Prep for the title.

Percy Daniels, a Seton Hall signee, is the boys Most Valuable Player after leading Madison Prep to the boys championship.

He averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, 5.6 blocked shots and 3.0 assists per game and had 25 points and 14 rebounds in semifinals on 10 of 11 shooting.

Madison Prep won its eighth state title.

Boys coach of the year is Errol Gauff of Hannan, who led the Hawks to the first state championship in program history with a win against top seed Liberty in the Division II state championship game.

St. Louis forward Bryson Hardy was selected to the second team. He averaged 19.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
