Funeral Service for Mrs. Myrtle June Brewer Johnson will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022, 2 p.m., at Diamond Baptist Church, 151 Diamond Church Road, DeRidder, La., with the Rev. Bill Smith and the Rev. Paul Massey officiating. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, La. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 2110 Hwy 171, DeRidder, La.
Mrs. Myrtle June Brewer Johnson was born in a farm house in Ike’s Community to Mr. and Mrs. John A. Brewer on June 6, 1933. She went into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on March 24, 2022.
June graduated from DeRidder High School in 1951. She attended Northwestern University on a music scholarship, then transferred to Louisiana College. She married the love of her life, Roy Lee Johnson, at Diamond Baptist Church. They pastored three churches while they attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon Roy Lee’s graduation from NOBTS, the family moved to Texas. Later, June graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She began her teaching career in Little Cypress Baptist Church, then taught in public schools in Texas and Louisiana for 30 years. June gave private piano lessons from time to time. Always, she was side by side with her husband as pastor’s wife and soul mate. She served as Pianist at Diamond Baptist for the past four plus years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years and 9 months the Rev. Roy Lee Johnson Sr.; sons, John Johnson (Diana) and Lee Johnson (JoAnn); son-in-law Allen Melder and fiancé Frieda Lambert; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Emily Brewer; her sister, Mary Olive Brewer; her brother, John Wiley Brewer; her daughter, Pamela June Johnson Melder; and her daughter-in-law, Joylynn Johnson.
