St. Louis captures Taussig victory

IOWA — The trio of Arden Turner, Tia Reder and Ella Segura helped power St. Louis Catholic to another team title on Friday at the Taussig Relays.
The trio accounted for 70.5 of the Saints’ 200 points.
Reder won in the field and on the track and claimed girls outstanding field athlete honors.
Reder went 17 feet, 11 inches in the long jump and 36-71/2 in the triple jump to win both events. Her distances moved her into the top 10 in the state in both events ,according to MileSplit Louisiana. She also helped the Saints win the 4×100 (49.42) and 4×200 (1:45.62) along with Turner.
Turner, the girls outstanding track athlete, won the 200-meter dash (26.54) and was second in the 100 (13.28). Segura swept the distance races, winning the 1,600 (5:27.43) and 3,200 (11:42.3) and was on the winning 4×400 relay.
Iowa placed second with 131 points. Sulphur (110) was third followed by DeRidder (67) and South Beauregard (24) to round out the top five. The Saints scored in all but one event, the 100 hurdles.
Natchitoches Central easily ran away with the boys team title with a balanced performance in the field and on the track with 138 points, led by outstanding track athlete Braylin Demars who won the 200 and 400.
Iowa was second with 94 points, followed by Lake Charles College Prep (57), St. Louis (55) and Sulphur (52) to round out the top five.
Westlake’s Tristan Goodly was a double-winner, taking gold in the long jump (22-81/4) and triple jump with the fourth-best distance (46-7) in the state this season. He won outstanding field honors.
St. Louis Catholic Mason Abshire 14-9 to win the pole vault and moved into the No. 2 spot in the state.
