Mother, son charged in ‘intentional’ hit-and-run

A mother is facing criminal prosecution on multiple charges after allegedly telling her juvenile son to intentionally run a person over with a vehicle, police said.

Jennings police were called to the area of the 400 block of South Main Street around noon on Saturday, March 12, in reference to a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian, according to information released Tuesday by police.

Police arrived to find one person who had been injured after being struck by a vehicle. The vehicle had left the scene, but was located a short time later by police at a residence.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by police as a juvenile. The juvenile, whose name has not been released, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and hit-and-run. He was transported to an out-of-state detention facility and later released to a guardian.

According to police, the boy’s mother, who was identified as Aerieal Denae Jones, 35, of Lafayette, was a passenger in the vehicle. Jones allegedly told her son to run over the victim, who is reportedly her ex-boyfriend.

Jones has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, contributing to the delinquent of a minor, hit-and-run driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on a $100,000 bond.
