Carl Williams

Carl Williams, 88, of Lake Charles, passed away in his residence on Saturday, March 19, 2022. He was born in Hodge, La., on March 3, 1934, to Ruben Daniel and Ophelia Ferguson Williams.
Carl was a Lake Charles boxing legend from LaGrange High School, a four-time state champion and Brink Trophy winner. He was later inducted into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame. He coached the Sam Houston Boxing Club, training aspiring young boxers, one to national title recognition. He coached little league baseball and served as a colorful game annunciator, giving every player a special sports hero or cartoon character name.
Carl worked many years at Augustine Construction and in real estate, then became a Moss Bluff entrepreneur in car sales and repairs. Later in life, he fundraised for local charities. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served the Moss Bluff area as a School Board Member.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Gilbert Williams; son, Doug; and nephew, Danny Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mitchell (Patricia) Williams, Michael (Lora) Williams, and Carl “Gene” (Lauri) Williams Jr.; daughter, Melinda Williams (Dane) Tilley; grandchildren, Stacey Rivera, Fallon Williams (Samuel) Harrison, Taylor (Tam) Williams, Merrie Williams, Jordan Williams, Maggie Williams, Mollie Williams, Adele Tilley (Garrett) Kelly, Mikkie Williams and Millie Williams; great-grandchildren, Brittany Rivera (Chris Stockton), Louis Rivera, Alyssa Rivera, Dakota Kelly, Bentley Kelly, Gray Harrison, Laura Kate Harrison, Charlotte Harrison, and Lawson Kelly; great-great-grandchild, Maverick Stockton; brother, George “Bud” (Ramona) Williams; nephews, Ronnie (Kim) Williams, Dr. Ray (Monica) Williams, and Terrel Williams; nieces, Cynthia Williams (Zach) Shirley, Phyllis Williams (William) Foster, and Susie Williams (Bob) Waggener.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Lake City Baptist Church, 3940 Holly Hill Rd. Rocky East will officiate. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at the church with a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall. A graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Thursday March 20, 2022, at 10 a.m. under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Guests are welcome to attend.
