Four people have been arrested in the Sunday shooting on Fitzenreiter Road that left two hospitalized.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief F. Fondel said 20-year-old Cameron Darris Fontenot and 23-year-old Markeith Devon Cahee have both been charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and both have bonds of $50,000 set by Judge Kendrick Guidry. A 15-year-old boy was charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and a 17-year-old boy — who was arrested while in possession of a firearm — was charged with carrying a firearm in a firearm-free zone, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and illegal possession of a firearm by juvenile.

Fondel said at the scene of the shooting, officers found numerous spent shell casings in the roadway, a bicycle and a vehicle occupied by two people — one the 15-year-old and the other a male adult.

Fondel said the adult suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was transported to a local hospital, and then, once stabilized, air lifted to Baton Rouge for further treatment. He remains in the hospital and has been upgraded to stable condition. The teen sustained gunshot wounds to both arms and was transported to a local hospital for treatment and then released into police custody.

Fondel said the shooting — “related to an attempted armed robbery of a gun” — occurred when four men arrived to the scene by vehicle and one man on a bicycle. The group arranged to meet behind a nearby elementary school for a transaction involving a firearm.

“Prior to the planned exchange, two of the subjects exited the vehicle, but remained in the area,” he said. “An attempted armed robbery took place between the remaining two subjects in the vehicle and the subject on the bicycle, a struggle ensued and shots were fired, striking the two subjects in the vehicle.”

Fondel said while the man on the bicycle fled the scene, he encountered the other two men from the car and gunfire was exchanged, but no one was struck.

Fondel said the man on the bicycle fled the scene before officers arrived, but the two men who had originally arrived in the vehicle were transported to headquarters for questioning and two handguns were recovered from the area.
