The last day of semifinals at the boys basketball state tournament will feature plenty of familiar faces today when Classes 2A and 3A take the court.
Defending 3A champion Madison Prep (23-6), the top seed this season, will open play at noon against No. 4 Donaldsonville (20-4). The Chargers are led by Seton Hall signee Percy Daniels, a senior center who averages 18 points and 12 rebounds per game.
Donaldsonville enters on a 13-game winning streak, including a 62-50 win over Iowa in the quarterfinals.
In the other semifinal, tournament regulars No. 2 Bossier (19-7) and No. 3 Wossman (21-6) meet at 2:30 p.m. Bossier won the 2020 title, beating Wossman in the championship game. Bossier is led by forwards Joseph Manning (15 ppg) and Marquis Harris (13 ppg).
Wossman is making its seventh consecutive trip to the state tournament but hasn’t won a title in that span. The Wildcats are led by senior forward Patrick Williams.
In Class 2A, newcomers No. 1 Lakeview (24-3) and No. 5 Amite (18-5) will meet in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. The high-scoring Gators are led by guards Javonte Howard (16 ppg) and Andre Sowell (13 ppg).
Amite is led by forward Lamar Harris (13 ppg).
The second semifinal matches rivals No. 2 Port Allen and No. 3 Rayville, who have met in the last three championship games. Rayville (21-8) won the 2019 final, the second of its consecutive state titles, while Port Allen (22-10) claimed the last two titles.
The Pelicans are leg by junior guard Eliot McQuillen and senior forward Jordan Brooks.
Rayville features guards Demarcus Dixon (18 ppg) and Camron Smith (15 ppg).
