DWI checkpoint nets two arrests

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI checkpoint on Feb. 18 at 1313 Country Club Road to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

One thousand five hundred ninety-four vehicles were checked; 10 field sobriety tests were administered; 29 citations were issued for no seatbelt; four  citations were issued for no child restraint; two citations were issued for no driver’s license; 13 citations were issued for expired motor vehicle inspection sticker; four citations were issued for expired license plate; seven citations were issued for illegal window tint; and one citation was issued for a headlight violation.

The following individuals were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center:

Darien A. Bartie, 28, Lake Charles — arrested for illegal carrying of weapons in presence of CDS; illegal possession of a stolen firearm; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and a traffic violation.

Corey P. Orgeron, 33, Lake Charles — arrested for possession of CDS III; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and a traffic violation.

The following individuals were issued a signed summons and released:

Breoisha C. Brooks, 29, Texas — arrested for possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia

Casey Fontenot, 28, Lake Charles — arrested for possession of marijuana

17 year old juvenile  — arrested for possession of marijuana; and DWI, first offense.

Participating in the checkpoint was the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police Troop D, Lake Charles Police Department, and Ward 3 Marshal’s Office.
