Cowboys fading fast

Wave bye-bye to the bye.

Holding their season in their own hands, the Cowboys simply threw it away Thursday night with poor shooting and lackluster play.

Continuing its stumbling down the stretch, McNeese State lost for the third consecutive time and ninth in its last 11 games, putting up little fight. And for the third time this season Texas A&M-Corpus Christi did the Cowboys in.

This time it was by a 65-53 score.

With two regular-season games remaining the Cowboys (10-19, 4-8 Southland Conference) are left playing for positioning, momentum for the tournament and pride.

Thursday there was little sign of desperation and even life coming from the home team.

They are all but officially out of the running for a bye in the upcoming eight-team SLC Tournament. Only a wild twist of events could change that.

The Islanders (18-10) improved to 5-6 in conference play despite entering last night’s game having lost five of six.

Making matters worse, McNeese fell to 2-4 at home since January. They will finish the home portion of their regular season Saturday against Incarnate Word.
