Which team had the best week?
WA: The Barbe boys (24-4) bounced back from two losses last week with quality wins over District 3-5A rivals Sulphur and Southside.
RA: Iowa locked up its first District 4-3A championship since 2009 with wins over Lake Charles College Prep and St. Louis Catholic. The Yellow Jackets have won 13 consecutive games and head coach Robert Melanson picked up his 700th career win on Tuesday.
Name a girls player of the week.
WA: Merryville sharpshooter Hannah Burr had games of 24 and 29 points as Merryville swept Oberlin and Hamilton Christian to clinch its third consecutive District 4-1A title.
RA: Senior forward Mackenzie Joseph scored 29 points in two games as Kinder picked up a pair of wins to stay in a first-place tie in District 5-2A that included an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double Friday against Vinton.
Name a boys player of the week.
WA: Iowa’s Dashawn Ceasar scored a total of 42 points in wins over LCCP and St. Louis to help the Yellow Jackets win the District 4-3A title.
RA: Barbe junior guard Jabarri Barry opened the week with 17 points in a 58-51 win over Sulphur on Monday, hitting 6 of 8 free throws in the closing seconds, then added a 24-point effort Friday to lead the Bucs to an 85-63 win over Southside.
