Field set for March election

Qualifying has wrapped up with local races taking shape for the March 26 primary elections.

Local offices up for grabs are DeRidder mayor, Jeff Davis district attorney, New Llano mayor and police chief, and Leesville mayor.

There will be no elections in Allen or Cameron parishes after candidates were elected outright.

Calcasieu

Sulphur Mayor Mike Danahay ran unopposed for a second term.

Also unopposed were Sulphur City Council District 1 member “Dru” Ellender, a Republican; District 3 member Melinda Hardy, a Democrat; District 4 member Joy Abshire, a Republican; District 5 member, Mandy B. Thomas, a Republican.

Candidates for Sulphur City Council District 2 are Republicans Michael “Mike” Koonce and Nicholas Nezat.

Lake Charles voters will be choosing the next city council member for District A. Candidates include Democrats Ronnie Harvey Jr. and T.A. Jones.

Allen

Republican Gary J. Ortego ran unopposed for the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal, 3rd District.

Beauregard

Beauregard voters will be choosing the next mayor for DeRidder. Candidates include incumbent Misty Clanton, no party; Democrat Michael D. Harris; and Kelly J. St. Germain, an independent.

Merryville Mayor Sheila Lanier Smith, no party affiliation, ran unopposed.

Candidates for Merryville police chief are Republicans “Tommy” Robberson and Randal Yawn and Democrat Robert Thompson.

Also on the ballot will be two seats for councilmen-at-large in DeRidder; five DeRidder City Council seats; and five aldermen seats in the town of Merryville.

Candidates for the DeRidder councilmen-at-large seats are Republicans “Danny” Reynolds and Lydia Reynolds, Democrats Paula Spikes Piper and Billy R. Spikes, and Vincent Labue, an independent.

Candidates for DeRidder City Council are District 1 — Democrats Wayne J. Godfrey Sr. and Kimaron Haynes Moore; District 2 — “Artie” Hickman, no party, ran unopposed; District 3 — Republican John L. Marcello ran unopposed; District 4 — Republican Dane Bergeron and “Randy” Larken, and independent; and District 5 — Republicans “MK” Dokwal and Keith Hooper and Raymond Henderson, an independent.

Candidates for Merryvillle aldermen include Republicans Daniel Campbell, Alison Page Robberson, Sara Barnes Sellers and Darrell Thompson; Democrat Fred Walker; and Sharon Myers and Dale T. Reinhardt, no party.

Cameron

In Cameron Parish, Justice of the Peace Byron Gibbs ran unopposed in Ward 6.

Jeff Davis

Voters in Jeff Davis will choose their next district attorney. Candidates include Republicans Elliott Cassidy and Lauren Heinen and Daniel Sparks, an independent.

Vernon

Vernon Parish will be selecting mayors for Leesville and New Llano as well as the chief of police for New Llano, five Leesville City Council seats, and a councilman for the town of New Llano.

Candidates for Leesville mayor include incumbent “Rick” Allen, no party, and Louis “Lou Lou” Hopkins, a Democrat.

Republican Caroln H. Todd, a Democrat, ran unopposed for mayor of New Llano after Republican Joseph “Joe Joe’ Stafford withdrew.

Republican Todd Scott ran unopposed for New Llano police chief.

Republican Phillip Hunt and Democrat Alice Guess ran unopposed for Leesville councilmen-at-large.

Candidates for Leesville City Council are District 1 — Democrat Vicki Chance King and Republican Chris Robertson; District 2 — Democrats Willie Mae Kennedy and Louis W. Smith; District 3 — Nicole Ybarra, no party, ran unopposed; District 4 — Jessica Herring, no party, and Republican Delain Perkins Prewitt; and District 5 —  Republicans “MK” Dokwal and Keith Hooper and Raymond Henderson, independent.

Candidates for the New Llano town council, all who ran unopposed, include Democrats Charlotte McHenry Cooper, Lesley Poteat, Winfort “Stew” Steward and Ervin Wilson and Republican Terry Speicher.
