Soon, an estimated 4,600 Westlake residents and business owners will have access to phone, internet and video services from Cameron Communications.

Cameron Communications is a leading provider of broadband access in rural markets throughout Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas.

The subsidiary of American Broadband Holding Company made the announcement Monday.        

“Work has already begun and will be managed in three phases,” said Bruce Petry, Cameron Communications president and general manager. “We look for the third phase to be complete around the middle of May.”

Petry said Cameron Communications had been looking for opportunities to grow.

American Broadband Holding Company made the fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) buildout possible.

Available will be 1 Gbps of high-speed internet for e-commerce, data transmission, teleconferencing and distance learning options.

Mayor Pro Tem Dan Racca said he’s grateful for the introduction of competitive services, something he said will benefit residents and businesses.

“I’m especially pleased to hear this news,” said Westlake City Councilman Michael Bergeron.

Bergeron lives in an area of the city currently without internet access.

Petry said when the expansion is complete, Westlake customers will have the ability to download rich content on one device while streaming on another, a benefit of better download and upload speeds.

TV, phone and internet bundling package pricing will be available.

“We understand the needs of Westlake customers because we have decades of expertise serving this region of the state and navigating the challenges that come with it,” Petry said. “We are committed to bringing the same high-level of community involvement and dedication to Westlake that residents in Carlyss, Moss Bluff, Grand Lake and Hackberry enjoy.”

R.B. Smith, vice president of Workforce Development at the SWLA Economic Development Alliance, said the arrival of high-speed internet in the Westlake community gives residents access to the 21st-century service in their homes and businesses.
