Emma Lee Hall Mitchell

Emma Lee Hall Mitchell was born March 24, 1939, to Mildred Evans and Tillman Hall in Lafayette, La. She moved to Lake Charles at an early age. Emma attended Second Ward Elementary School. She was employed with W. O. Moss Regional Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1999. She worked at New Sunlight Daycare Center until closure and became a Foster Grandparent at D.A. Combre Elementary.
Emma accepted Christ at a young age at New Emmanuel Baptist Church. She later joined New Sunlight Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend V.E. Washington, and she was a member of the Usher Board and Missions Group. She has attended New Sunlight for 47 years. “Ms. Emma,” as she was affectionately known, was well-loved and respected in the Booker T. and Fisherville Community.
Emma leaves to cherish her memory to her daughters, Joann Smith of Charlotte, N.C., Yvette (Maurice) Bumpas of Dayton, Ohio, Barbara Hall of Dayton, Ohio, and Darlene August of San Antonio, Texas; and son, Paul August of Lake Charles, La. Sisters, Barbara Guillory of Lake Charles, La., and Norma Lee Holliday of New York; brothers, Larry (Nareida) Evans of Fort Worth, Texas, Darrow (Patricia) Evans of New York, and Solomon (Paula) Branch of Columbia, S.C. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 New Sunlight Baptist Church. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Stevens’ Funeral Home. Visitation Saturday 8 a.m.
