An Iowa, La., man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a woman and the attempted murder of another Wednesday night in the 100 block of N. Thompson Avenue.
Iowa Police Chief Keith Vincent said the second victim was transported to a local hospital for gunshot wounds.
Vincent said officers responding to a disturbance call at about 7 p.m. Wednesday night apprehended Sheron Lamar Lewis at the scene.
Lewis is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing as the department speaks with others involved in the incident, a spokesman said. Lewis may incur additional charges as the investigation continues.
“A lot depends on what happens to the second victim,” the spokesman said. The second victim is still in critical condition at a local hospital.
Lewis’s relation to the victims is “family by marriage,” the spokesman added and the investigation is believed to be “pretty much on the right path” in determining a resolution.
