Norris Pete

Norris Pete, 89, departed this life on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at a local nursing home in Lake Charles, La. He was born Oct. 21, 1932, to Ozear Pete and Lega Carrier Pete in Opelousas, La.
He was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles and was an awesome husband to his wife, Theresa Pete. He was an amazing dad to Mike, Ronnie, Poopsie, Winky and the late Mellreay. To others he was considered as Mr. Norris, Mr. Pete, Uncle Norris and Cousin Norris. He was a longtime member of Calcasieu Sheriff Posse and American Quarter Horse Association. He was a horseman, calf roper, horse trainer and rodeo stock producer. He was a mentor to many with no regards to race or age. He has assisted many young males and females with their calf roping and barrel racing skills.
He retired from McNeese State University after 42 years of service. On weekends you could find him mowing his lawn, cleaning horse stalls, washing his horses, going to a rodeo, trailride, cooking his famous gumbo, and not to mention going to a zydeco dance. He lived life to the fullest.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Michael (Grace) Pete of Houston, Texas, Ronnie Trail of Lake Charles, La., Lori “Poopsie” Pete of Houston, Texas, and Darrell “Winky” (Katie) Cezair of Lake Charles, La.; one sister, Fannie (Alfred) Williams of Lake Charles, La.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ozear and Lega Pete; his wife, Theresa Pete; one daughter, Mellreay Edwards; and two brothers, Alias Pete and Houston Pete.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at 9 a.m., at King’s Funeral Home and funeral service at 11 a.m., at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
