LAKE ARTHUR — Anna Trahan scored a game-high 20 points — 14 in the second half — and the Jennings Bulldogs came from behind in the second half to take a 48-35 win over the host Tigers Friday night in the Lake Arthur girls basketball tournament.
Lake Arthur led 24-17 at the half, but Jennings outscored Lake Arthur 31-11 in the second half to take the victory.
“We didn’t really have much energy in the first half, but we picked up in the second half,” said Jennings head coach Eric Guidry. “We didn’t attack the goal as that was our plan in the beginning, but we executed a good 6-minute stretch that pushed us ahead.”
The Tigers (8-4) broke a tied score in the first quarter with a 7-0 run early in the second quarter to take a 20-15 lead with 2:58 to play. The Bulldogs were held scoreless for more than 5 minutes until Chanyree Lewis stopped the run with a basket with 1:44 to play. Vivian Sketoe scored the final four points of the quarter to give the Tigers the 24-17 halftime lead.
Jennings (11-4) tied the score at 25-25 with 6:01 to play in the third quarter with six consecutive points by Zy Etienne.
“Zy Etienne saved the game for us, being aggressive and going to the basket and finishing,” Guidry said. “She took care of the ball and helped us get the lead in the third quarter and win the game.”
Etienne finished with 10 points.
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 16-5 in the third quarter, thanks in part to Anna Trahan’s seven points and Etienne’s six. The Bulldogs never lost the lead after taking a 31-29 lead with 41 seconds left in the quarter.
A 10-0 run extended the Jennings lead to 39-29 with 6:24 to play after consecutive 3-pointers by Lewis and Trahan. Kali Hornsby, who scored a team-high 12 points, stopped the run with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 39-31 which was the closest Lake Arthur got.
The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with another 7-0 run. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
Darrah Broussard added 11 points for the Tigers.
