Darryl Joseph Brignac Sr.

Darryl Joseph Brignac Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, with his beloved family at his side, after a valiant fight against cancer. Darryl was the tenth  child out of 12, born in Iota, La. on Aug. 26, 1955, to Pauline Leday Brignac and Walter Brignac Sr. He graduated from Marion High School in 1976. After high school, Darryl joined the United States Army and served four years. He received an Honorable Discharge. Darryl was a long-time resident of Lake Charles, La. He worked at Meche’s Trim and Upholstery for six years, Wilson Motor Cadillac for 12 years, and retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board after 12 years. He loved watching WWE wrestling, working on cars, and was very knowledgeable about classic cars. In his spare time, he loved spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. He was a devoted friend to those who knew him and loving Husband, Father, Brother, and “Pop Pop.”

Darryl is preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers, Valentine, Frank, and Andrew Brignac; and two sisters, Clara Boutte, and Patricia Lede.

Darryl is survived by his wife, Geneva Brignac; his two children from a previous marriage, Darryl Jr. and Celicia Brignac both of Houston, Texas; his stepson, Edgar Manuel Jr.; stepdaughter, Dr. Debra Phillips (Tory) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and his beloved dog, Boudin. Darryl leaves to cherish his memory five sisters, Gertrude Brignac, Mary Lee Gobert, Shirley Albert, Theresa Stevens, and Margaret McArthur; one brother, Walter Brignac II, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The funeral service will be at Fondel Memorial Chapel, 832 N. Lyons Street, on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. A private family visitation before the service will begin at 1:00 p.m. His final resting place will be in Combre Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Due to current COVID-19 concerns and new variant, a face-covering is required during visitation and services.
