Madison Prep returned to the Showdown in the Lake tournament in style, winning the event with a 53-41 win over Bossier in the championship game at Hamilton Christian.
The Chargers (6-0) surged ahead with a 13-2 run that began late in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead.
Dezmond Perkins scored nine points in the first quarter as Madison Prep took a 21-12 lead. He finished with 11 points and was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Percy Daniels, a Seton Hall commit, scored four points in the decisive first half run and finished with 12 points, as did Josh Smith. The run gave the Chargers a 30-14 lead.
Bossier (4-2) responded with a push of its own, scoring eight straight points to get within single digits at 30-22.
That’s as close as they would get, as Madison Prep slowly stretched the lead back to 16 points midway through the fourth quarter.
Javon Johnson led Bossier with 16 points. Marquis Harris added nine.
Madison Prep is a regular guest at the tournament but did not appear last year due to other commitments. The Chargers did return to Lake Charles for the state championship tournament, winning the Class 3A title with a 52-47 win over St. Martinville.
Prep advanced to the championship game with a 66-43 win over Wossman. The Chargers won all four tournament games by double digits.
Bossier beat North Central 55-50 in the semifinals.
