A Beauregard Parish man has been arrested in connection with the death of his father who was discovered dead inside a Rosepine home earlier this week, according to authorities.
Jeramiah Foster, 20, was charged on Thursday with second-degree murder after admitting to detectives he had been involved in a domestic violence incident that allegedly led to the death of his father, Larry Foster, the day before.
According to Sheriff Sam Craft, the investigation into the incident began on Wednesday morning when a woman walked into the Rosepine Town Hall building that houses the area police department, and told authorities she had discovered a man dead on the floor of her home.
Rosepine Police and Vernon Sheriff’s Office authorities responded to the residence in the area of Lewis Road, and located the deceased man’s body, later identified as 57 year-old Larry Foster, of Bon Wier, Texas.
“Upon observation of the scene, officers recognized the need for further investigation into the death,” Craft said.
The investigation, according to Craft, revealed that Foster frequently visited the home he was found deceased in, and that his vehicle was missing from the property. That vehicle was soon located near DeRidder and was found to be in the possession of his son, Jeramiah Foster. It was also learned that Jeramiah Foster was wanted on active bench warrants from both Beauregard and Vernon parishes.
Foster was located by Beauregard Parish deputies at a residence on Kulaga Road and was taken into custody on the outstanding bench warrants. He was then extradited to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office where detectives began questioning him on his father’s death.
It was during those interviews, according to Craft, that Foster admitted to having been involved in a domestic violence incident with his father.
Official forensic results from the autopsy are still pending, but Vernon Parish authorities told the American Press it is believed Foster was stabbed to death. Foster was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
