Charges against a 16-year-old girl accused of shooting her friend Saturday night have been upgraded to second-degree murder.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said Jayden P. Ramirez, 18, of Lake Charles died from his injuries Tuesday night.

Vincent said the shooting occurred at a residence on Julia Street and the victim was initially airlifted to a hospital out of town in critical condition.

She said detectives upgraded the 16-year-old’s charges from aggravated second-degree battery to second-degree murder Wednesday morning. The girl remains in the Juvenile Detention Center.
