A Lake Charles woman was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle fiery crash in Moss Bluff.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said the crash occurred near the intersection of North Perkins Ferry Road and U.S. 171 in Moss Bluff in reference to a single-vehicle crash with an SUV on fire.
The preliminary investigation revealed the SUV went off the roadway, for unknown reasons, in a curve. The driver, Alicia D. Smith, 40, was ejected from the SUV.
It is believed the vehicle then caught fire due to damages it sustained during the crash, Kayla said.
Smith was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. As mandated by state law, toxicology testing will be performed.
Sr. Cpls. Cameron Hicks and Cody Fontenot are the lead investigators on this crash.
