Community members are invited to join The 337 Vote Project on Saturday for Pedal2ThePolls. Free and open to the public, bicycle riders will trek from Drew Park, 416 Dr. Michael Debakey Drive, to the Old Calcasieu Courthouse to early vote, leaving the park at 11 a.m.

The event is designed to “promote voting, civic engagement and get a good form of exercise all in one,” Breon Robinson, project co-founder, said.

Riders will need to bring their bicycle or $25 to rent a bicycle from Biking Through the Lake and a valid form of identification to vote. Robinson said promoting voter registration, education and turn out are the main purposes of Saturday’s event.

“With all three of those, true democratic victories can happen,” she said.

The District 27 Senate race is the one of the most important issues on the ballot, in her opinion, because, “Whoever we vote into office will be who represents us to higher powers.”

While the Senate seat is a hot issue, each of this month’s ballot items are important for everyone to pay attention to, she added, because “a lot of issues can affect the outcomes of our livelihoods later on in life.”

The event is free to attend and food will be provided. Registration is required.
