Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office have made an arrest over the threatening social media posts targeting Lake Charles College Prep. Two separate threats, one last Friday and one Tuesday, have been aimed at the high school.

During questioning, a 14-year-old girl confirmed she was responsible for creating one of the threats, Kayla Vincent, CPSO public information officer, said. Detectives also traced an IP address obtained during the investigation back to the student’s home address.

The student is being booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and is charged with terrorizing.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso said this is the seventh arrest the agency has made this year for terrorizing.

“We have a zero tolerance when it comes to threatening harm to other students along with the faculty at our schools in Calcasieu Parish. It is not something that is taken lightly,” he said.

“This is not a joking matter and students need to know they will be arrested if they make threats toward a school, staff or other students. The safety of our children is always our top priority.”

LCCP Superintendent Henry Mancuso expressed his gratitude to CPSO for their thoroughness and the manner in which the investigation was conducted.

“We look forward to returning to our work of educating the students at Lake Charles College Prep,” he said. “Certainly these past several days have reminded us that this is a huge societal issue, as Sheriff Mancuso said. We all need to be aware that this is an issue and reminding our students that this is true foolishness that becomes much more serious. It may take a day or three days, but eventually, they will be caught.”

CPSO Det. Greg Jordan is the lead investigator on this continuing case.

More arrests and charges are possible, Vincent said.
