Update: Threat of gun violence made against LCCP

Lake Charles College Prep was targeted with an anonymous social media threat on Friday involving a gun on campus planned for Monday. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was immediately called in to begin their investigation on Friday night, Henry Mancuso, LCCP superintendent, said.
“The message first began to appear on Friday evening at some point…It specifically referred to 11:50 a.m. on Monday.”
School attendance was down 40 percent on Monday with many parents either checking their student out or not sending them to school at all, he said.
“Otherwise, it’s been a very calm day. There’s been the additional presence of CPSO and members of the SWAT team, so there’s been a great sense of security at the school.”
Kayla Vincent, CPSO public information officer, said detectives began investigating on Friday but have not made an arrest yet in the case.
Mancuso said from his understanding LCCP is one of three schools that have received similar messages via social media this year.
“My understanding is that the only difference between the three messages is the name of the school and the name of a staff member,” he said.
“But other than that, the messages are supposed to be exactly the same or nearly the same from what we’ve been able to learn.”
The message was reportedly air dropped, he said, “Which makes it a little more difficult but not impossible to trace.” Law enforcement is doing a “complete investigation” to get to the bottom of the threat, he added.
“They’re not just sitting around waiting to see if somebody’s going to do something silly. I would classify this as a very active and thorough investigation. I’m confident that eventually this person or persons will be able to be tracked down.”
