Craig Joseph Derouen

Craig Joseph Derouen, born Jan. 3, 1950, to Vernice and Alice Derouen in Lake Charles, La., received his wings on Oct. 30, 2021.
He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1970 where he played trumpet with the band all four years. Upon graduation, he started a career in banking with Calcasieu Marine National Bank. He met and married his wife, Jolyn McCurley in April 1975 and moved to Houston, Texas, where he continued his banking career until being hired by IBM Federal Credit Union where he worked for 30 years.
He and Jolyn then moved to Brazoria, Texas, where he continued his credit union career with Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU) until his retirement in 2011. He and Jolyn returned to Sulphur in 2012 to enjoy retirement – which he did by playing guitar and piano with Souled Out and Last Chance Blues Band, along with hunting and fishing out at the camp with his best friend. He also proudly served as Chair of the Supervisory Committee at CSE Federal Credit Union in Lake Charles, La.
Craig is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Sheryl Derouen.
He is survived by his loving wife Jolyn of 47 years; and son Cody Derouen and his wife Brandi of Nacogdoches, Texas; his sister, Vernette Leger; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation as Craig received a kidney transplant in Sept. 2017 at Ochsner’s in New Orleans, or to Henning Memorial Methodist Church.
A celebration of Craig’s life will be held at Henning Memorial Methodist Church Family Life Center on Nov. 6, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. Cremation was entrusted to Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
