Geneva R. Powers

Geneva R. Powers, age 93, of Ragley, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. She was born September 5, 1928, in Mire, LA, to Armand Richard and Dora Meche Richard.
She married her husband Jack Powers and they had four sons. While raising her four boys, Geneva started college at McNeese University, where she graduated and became a school teacher. She taught at Westwood and Western Heights Elementary schools until her retirement.
Geneva was a member of Gateway Church of God and was very involved and carried on her ministry with the Meals on Wheels program, providing nutritious meals for the recipients of the program. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was affectionately called The Blue Heron by her brother John Richard because she was seen many times fishing on her wharf in her blue Columbia shirt.
Geneva was an accomplished basket weaver, and graced many friends and relatives with her finished craft. One other favorite pastime was eating boiled crabs and crawfish with her family and friends
Geneva is proceeded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 71 years Jack Augustus Powers; two grandsons, Jerod Powers and Greg Powers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Mike Powers, Steve Powers and wife Donna both of Ragley, LA, Mark Powers and wife Sandy of Pahoa, HI, and Paul Powers and wife Pam of Lake Charles, LA; brother, John Richard of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Jonathan Powers and wife Andrea, Michelle Powers, Jay Powers and wife Paige, Jamie Sutherland and husband Shannon, Noa Powers, Karissa Haydon and husband Rhys, Taylor Powers and wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Tripp powers and wife Ashley, Michael Bailey, Johnathan Bailey, Karlie Powers, Katie Powers, Kelsie Powers, Chaise Sutherland, Caden Powers, Rylee Powers, Renn Haydon, Ryder Haydon, Sebastian Powers, Stormy Powers, Tiffany Powers; great-great grandchildren, Meredith Powers and Case Powers.
Visitation and Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 31, 2021, starting at 1:30pm until service time beginning at 3pm with Pastor Richard Rials officiating. Jack Liggio and Lamar Huffman will assist with the service. Burial will be private.
