The Louisiana High School Athletic Association banned Lake Charles College Prep from the high school football playoffs due to undisclosed rules violations, the school confirmed on Wednesday.
Prep said it appealed the ruling but was denied. The school was also fined. No other penalties such as forfeits were issued. The violations involved only the football program.
The school issued the following statement:
“Lake Charles College Prep is committed to maintaining and ensuring the highest standards of compliance in our athletic program. We respectfully disagree with the sanctions issued by the LHSAA which will keep our football players from participating in the playoffs this season. While this is unfortunate, we will continue to maintain the integrity of our program, and we look forward to participating fully next season.”
Under a policy started in 2018, the LHSAA no longer details results of its investigations, including the nature of the infraction and penalties.
The Trailblazers (5-3, 3-0 District 4-3A) are scheduled to play unbeaten Iowa (8-0, 3-0) Friday night for the district championship.
Last year the Blazers reached the Class 3A semifinals and finished the season with a 9-1 record, the best in school history.
LCCP began varsity football in 2015, playing two seasons in Class 1A before being reclassified into Class 3A.
The Blazers were 0-9 in their inaugural season and improved to 5-7 in 2016. That season included the school’s first playoff win.
After going 2-8 in its first Class 3A season, the Blazers are 33-10 over the past four seasons with six playoff wins in the last three seasons.
