Take Five: Yellow Jackets look to stay undefeated

Five things to watch for this week in the world of Southwest La. prep sports.
Yellow Jacket rampage: Iowa continued its path of destruction last week with a dominant road win at Jennings. This week the undefeated Yellow Jackets are on the road again, this time to face one-loss Westlake in a key District 4-3A game. The Rams already have a district loss, at home to Lake Charles College Prep, and needs a win to stay in the title chase. Westlake rebounded from the loss with a win at South Beauregard last week.
Pivotal week: Lake Charles College Prep remained perfect in 4-3A play last week with a win over St. Louis. Running backs Devonte Guidroz and JaRell Joseph each ran for over 100 yards in the game. This week the Blazers front seven will have to deal with Jennings QB Trevor Etienne, who ran for 250 yards last week. A Prep win could set up a Week 9 district title showdown with Iowa. Jennings is fighting for a playoff berth.
3-5A rivalry: Sulphur has been up-and-down all season, with a loss following each of its three wins to date. The Tors knocked off Comeaux at home last week and travels to face Barbe this week. The Tors currently are in the Class 5A playoff field, while the Bucs need to finish with two wins over the final three weeks to have a chance to get in.
Parish rivalry: Jefferson Davis Parish rivals Welsh and Lake Arthur meet Friday night, with the host Tigers looking to move into the top 32 with another win. Lake Arthur beat Port Barre last week to move into the playoff race. The Greyhounds are in the middle of the pack and not too far from earning a home game in the first round after beating Class 4A LaGrange in a nondistrict game last week.
Galloping Gallashaw: Leesville running back Caleb Gallashaw has run for 831 yards and nine touchdowns over the past four weeks while also catching 14 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns over that span. The Wampus Cats are 2-0 in District 3-4A play and have won three straight overall after last week’s comeback 49-41 win over rival DeRidder.
