Wheels of Hope, benefitting St. Nicholas Center for Children, returns this Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Moss Bluff.

The charity bike ride features four different route options including a five-to-10 mile path, 25-mile route, 46-mile route and a 58-mile route covering the scenic views of Moss Bluff and DeQuincy, Brittany Schwem, development director, said.

“It’s not a race but you can certainly compete with your friends…It’s just a fun way to get out there and show your support for a great cause.”

Proceeds from the ride will allow the center to continue to offer scholarships for
uncovered services for St. Nicholas Center for Children’s clients.

It’s been nearly two years since the center’s last fundraiser and with fundraisers making up 10 percent of the budget, Schwem said the non-profit is excited for a safe return this weekend. Regarding the health, safety concerns of the last 18 months, she said, “It seems like everything is on the up and up! It’s an outdoor event and supposed to be a beautiful Saturday.”

For families interested in bringing the entire family out for the ride, the five to 10 mile route is the most family friendly with safety features lining the streets to ensure a safe ride for all participants. All riders, regardless of route length, will return to Holy Family Catholic Church to enjoy a “Taste of Louisiana” as a welcome back celebration.

“Volunteers come and cook for everyone. Bacon wrapped duck, gumbo, boudin and sausage— several different types of Louisiana cruise,” Schwem said of the picnic style celebration.

Registration is $40 for adult riders and $20 for children. Registration closes Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
