Four people were arrested Monday after barricading themselves in the attic of a home in the 2500 block of Demarest Street.
Lake Charles Police SWAT members, with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office ACTT Team, arrested 22-year-old Davantee Damond Bartie, 36-year-old James Lee Bartie, 19-year-old Lamarcus Deshawn Chatman and 19-year-old Kalin Stevens in connection to two ongoing shooting investigations.
Deputy Chief Frankin Fondel said in an effort to evade arrest on active warrants, the four men barricaded themselves in the attic of the home. Surrounding homes and a nearby elementary school were placed on a precautionary, temporary lockdown until officers could safely resolve the situation, he said.
Franklin said officers were initially dispatched to the 1900 block of 9th Street on Sept. 25 in reference to a complaint of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered the gunfire was from a drive-by shooting. No one was injured in the shooting and no property was damaged. More than 20 shell casings were recovered.
Officers received a second complaint of gunfire on Sept. 26 near the 2800 block of 11th Street.
Further investigation revealed the shooting took place at the conclusion of a balloon release. One person was injured and treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. More than 60 shell casings were recovered.
Detectives were able to identify the involved subjects and obtain warrants for their arrest. Officers with the SWAT Team carried out the service of these warrants and through the conducting of search warrants, recovered numerous firearms, ammunition and narcotics.
