OBERLIN — Authorities have arrested a Kinder man after an investigation of a motorcycle accident turned into a homicide.
Michael Shaun Patrick, 50, was arrested Wednesday for second-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Christopher Hebert of Oberlin.
Patrick is being held in the Allen Parish Jail on a $425,000 bond.
Sheriff deputies initially responded to an unresponsive motorcyclist call on Aug. 13 after Hebert was found lying in a ditch near his motorcycle on Nursery Road, just south of Oberlin.
Sheriff Doug Hebert III said investigators initially thought the death was the result of a motorcycle crash.
The death was later ruled a homicide after an autopsy indicated the victim had a bullet fragment in his head, Hebert said. Several .45 caliber shell casings were also recovered near the scene, he said.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that Hebert was parked on the side of the road and had an encounter with Patrick, who was also on the roadway.
Patrick allegedly shot Hebert in the head at some point during the encounter, the sheriff said.
