Colo. man struck, killed in Calcasieu

A 48-year-old man from Aurora, Colo., was killed Sunday night while crossing Interstate 10 near Sulphur.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Sgt. Derek Senegal David Joseph Williams and another occupant were traveling in a 2014 Jeep on I-10 about seven miles from the Ruth Street exit when they pulled over onto the shoulder.
“At some point, Williams exited the Jeep and attempted to cross the westbound lanes of travel when he was struck by a westbound 2020 Lexus SUV,” Senegal said.
Williams sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene., Senegal said.
The driver of the Lexus was not injured and impairment is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained from Williams and the driver of the Lexus for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 25 deaths in 2021.
