SULPHUR — Brock Matherne had an impressive debut as St. Louis football coach, with the Saints controlling play for most of a 14-9 win over Barbe in the final game of the Sulphur SPOT Therapy/Navarre Auto Group Jamboree.
Quarterback James Reina went 6-of-7 for 144yards in his first start. He threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Grant Evans in the first half and a 38-yarder to Marcus Duhon in the second to put the Saints up 14-0.
A punt snap through the end zone gave Barbe a safety to make it 14-2.
The Bucs scored with 2:19 left on a 13-yard screen pass from Will McClain to Tylan Ceasar.
The Saints recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran the clock out.
The St. Louis defense forced a pair of turnovers in the first half and stopped another Barbe drive with a sack.
Ceasar led the Bucs with 55 rushing yards on seven carries and four catches for 43 yards.
McClain was 8 of 13 for 74 yards.
