With profound sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Marie Burnett Young, 75, who went to her heavenly home on August 24, 2021 with family by her side.
Born March 30, 1946 in Eunice, Louisiana, she was one of five daughters for the late Jess Burnett and Amy Latour Burnett. She was a 1964 graduate of Eunice High School and married Donald A. Young in 1965, also a Eunice native. Throughout their marriage, the couple had three children, loved to travel, relocated for work to various places around the country, and returned to Lake Charles after electing early retirement. Sheila and Don were married 54 years at the time of her death.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Susie Young Richardson, David Young (Shelly) and Katie Young Chapman (Brian); her 6 grandchildren Luke Richardson, Brooks Richardson, Brylee Young, Graham Chapman, Beckham Chapman, and Emersyn Chapman; her sisters Lonell White, Bobbie Sue Feucht (Richard), Jessica Boudreaux, and the late Kim Bergeron (Kenneth).
Sheila was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, and church. She was a member of Christ Community Church and until her health condition made it impossible, she was active in leadership activities. Her Christian faith was an essential part of her life and she encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue a relationship with the Lord. She had a servants heart and spent many years volunteering at various places. She was a volunteer at Oak Park Food Pantry for nine years, on the Board of Trustees at CCC, Region Five Advisory Board for Mental Health member, as well as Volunteer of the Year for NAMI. Though Sheila’s health was failing for years, she never wavered in her faith.
Sheila will always be remembered as “She-pa-la” with her vivacious personality, huge smile, and loud infectious laugh. She wasn’t the biggest fan of cooking, but for 40 years she made a homecooked meal almost every day. She always wanted her home to feel welcoming. One of her favorite things to do was sit around the table with others to play cards or dominos. Most of all, she treasured family time when everyone was together to visit and laugh.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home of Eunice with Pastor Rick McClain officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
At the request of family, visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Quirk & Son and will resume at 8:00 AM on Saturday until time of Services at 10:00 AM.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from all the wonderful friends and family that have embraced them through this time. Her family is also extremely grateful to her devoted caretaker, Joey Watkins.
