John Kyle Blackmon
John Kyle Blackmon entered this world on Sept. 19, 1956 in Galveston County Memorial Hospital in Texas City, Texas, born to his parents, John Edwin Blackmon and Theda Dolores DeBarge Blackmon. Because he accepted Christ as his savior at an early age, he left on Jan. 27, 2021 to join his Lord in heaven.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, especially with his bow. When asked what he killed most of the time, his answer was “time.” He had a long battle with a wild turkey who eventually outsmarted him. His favorite place was his camp in north Louisiana. He often texted us pictures of the bears in his front yard.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edwin Blackmon. Survivors are his mother, Theda Dolores Burnett of Austin, Texas; his brother, Glen Blackmon and wife, Janell of Montgomery, Texas; sisters, Joan Burnett Lewman and husband Tom and Jan Pennington and husband Marty; plus his favorite two little people, Gabriel Parsons and Holland Bergeron of Sulphur, La. He is also survived by a special companion, Anita Abshire of Carlyss.
Kyle was raised by his mother and caring stepfather, Joe Burnett, in University Place where he attended Dolby Elementary, Forrest K. White Junior High, Barbe High, and McNeese State University. He served in the United States Army and worked most of his life as an electrician.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers, especially the COVID-19 ICU staff at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur and St. Francis Cabrini in Alexandria, La. where he passed away. We are especially grateful for the arrangements to say goodbye via Zoom.

LAKE ARTHUR-Funeral services for Mr. Vincent Wayne Broussard, 69 of Lake Arthur will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at Miguez Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
Visitation for Mr. Broussard will begin Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. and close at 9 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. It will continue Monday morning at 8 a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Broussard was born on Dec. 2, 1951 in Lake Arthur to Curtis and Clara Bouley Broussard. He was a lifelong resident of Lake Arthur. Wayne was a carpenter and handyman by trade. He loved playing music on his drums and he enjoyed cooking. He was a friend to all.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tina Broussard; his mother, Clara Broussard of Lake Arthur; one daughter, Connie Hoffman and husband David of Groves, Texas; stepson, Hutch Pellerin and his wife Meghan of Lake Arthur; two sisters, Shirley Horton of Beaumont, Texas and Jackie Johnson and husband Roger of Kinder; two brothers, Ricky Broussard and wife Angie of Jennings and Brian Broussard and wife Susan of Lake Arthur and six grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis Broussard of Lake Arthur; a son, Roderick “Pig” Broussard; one grandchild, Noah Pellerin and his father-in-law Roycie Pellerin.
Carrying Wayne to his place of eternal rest will be Brian Broussard, Roger Johnson, Ricky Boudreaux, Gary Guidry, Boo Monceaux and Terry Monceaux.

Daisetta Carr
Daisetta Carr “Nanny” passed away Jan. 31, 2021 at the age of 94 at home with her family by her side.
She was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Daisetta, Tx. She lived in Crowley, La. during her youth, and later moved to Southwest Louisiana where she met her husband of 51 years, Chester M. Carr. She retired from Plauche Insurance after 14 years of service there. Daisetta was an active and involved member of Westlake Assembly of God Church for many years and later, The Sanctuary in Moss Bluff. She will always be remembered as a kind, loving grandmother who loved and cared about everyone around her.
A homegoing service will be held at University Baptist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Visitation begins at noon, and the service at 2:00 under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Charles Decker
Charles “Charlie” Decker, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021. He was born July 5, 1933 to Charles and Charlotte (Matthews) Decker in Waymart, Penn. “Charlie” was a three sport star in basketball, baseball and soccer for Waymart High School. He led his team to two Wayne County Conference Basketball Championships is junior and senior year going 16-0. He averaged 24.8 points per game his senior year and graduated as the all time leading scorer in Wayne County history with 1634 points. He also had the single game record of 45 points versus Northern Wayne High School. In baseball, Charlie was a star pitcher throwing two no-hitters and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Charlie played locally at Keystone Junior College and the Tri-County League. He averaged 39.9 points per game and had a high game of 58 both league records. He also scored 125 points in a three game series and that was also a record. Charlie was inducted into the Wayne County Hall of Fame in 1995.
Charlie then served his country in the U.S. Army for two years at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was assigned to the Third Army Infantry Division. Charlie played for the base basketball teams at Ft Benning and Ft. Rucker, earning all-post selections on both teams. He separated from the Army with an Honorable Discharge.
Charlie then took his talents to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. He was a member of the NAIA National Championship basketball team in 1956. He earned All Gulf State Conference two years as a starting guard. In baseball, Charlie was a two time All Gulf State Conference pick and team Most Valuable Player. He was also named the Gulf State Player of the Year in 1956. He once threw both games of a doubleheader winning both! Charlie was inducted into the McNeese State Hall of Fame in 1984.
Charlie continued his basketball career playing amateur basketball for the McDonald Scots in Lake Charles and the Akron Goodyears of the National Industrial Basketball League. He would play in eight National Championships earning two titles with Goodyear.
Charlie was an avid Indiana University fan and excellent golfer. He played until the age of 85. At the pinnacle of his golf career, he established a low handicap of two. He was also an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and was a season ticketholder for 14 years.
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Cecilia Decker. He is survived by his five children, David (Maria) Decker, Paul Decker, Dana (Michael) Cavosie, Jennifer (Jason) Hedge and Katherine Decker. He also had 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Our father was a kind, gentle, and humble man. He was “loved by many and will be missed by all.”

Myrna Davidson Donnelly (Mrs. Joseph T. Donnelly) born April 18, 1937 in Shreveport,La. Moved to Maplewood in 1943, once Cities Service finished construction. Graduate of Sulphur High School and attended Northwestern State College and McNeese. Retired after 34 years from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Member of Delta Zeta Sorority, member of the Mayor’s Commission for Women and Charter Member of Women’s Commission of SWLA, Life Master Duplicate Bridge member of American Contract Bridge League for many years where she served as a certified director for several years, Member of Our Lady of Good Counsel where she served as extraordinary minister of communion, worked for Registrar of Voters as Commissioner and Commissioner in Charge, Hospice Volunteer and an original “pink lady” at Charity Hospital in Lake Charles. She was also a long-time member of the Calcasieu Forum Book Club.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Vera and Willie Davidson and two children Sheila Reuben Joyner and Kathryn Laudumiey; two husbands, Harold Arthur Reuben and Marcel A. Laudumiey; along with a host of friends and relatives.
Survivors include husband, Joseph T. Donnelly of Lake Charles; Daughter, Lisa Reuben Ferguson (Jeff)and Daughter, Drew of Lake Charles; Son-in-Law, Gary Joyner (husband of Sheila) of Zachary with daughter, Maggie (Harry) and son, Nash; brother, Robert N. Davidson and his wife, Lana of Sulphur and their daughter, Cary Tassin (David) of Lake Charles and Todd (Shelly) of Oregon; two stepdaughters, Dee Brantley and Dian Darre; along with various nieces and nephews.
She was known for her love of all games, reading, and her Catholic faith.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Rev. Paul Jessun will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home and inurnment will be held in Consolata Cemetery at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. until the start of the service in the church.

DALLAS – Funeral services for Ernest Hicks Kennedy, 74, are complete. Kennedy died Wednesday morning at the Baylor Medical School’s hospital here of complications related to COVID and lymphoma.
Kennedy was born Feb. 16, 1946, in St. Patrick Hospital, the youngest son of the late C.L. and Pauline Kennedy, RN. He matriculated in the then-Lake Charles School System at Fourth Ward Elementary, Central Junior High and Lake Charles High School.
He graduated from Lake Charles High in 1964 where he had been a two-year letterman on the Wildcat Football teams and was inducted in the Lake Charles Club, a membership of varsity lettermen.
Following graduation, Kennedy went on active duty with the U.S. Navy, where he had enlisted in the Reserves on his 18th birthday. He served two years of active duty and continued in the Naval Reserve after his honorable discharge.
He had been a deputy sheriff with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department under the late Sheriff Henry A. “Ham” Reid. As a deputy, he was a member of the sheriff’s department’s Shooting Team, both as a marksman and in quick-draw competition.
He continued to be an avid outdoorsman and conservationist all his life. One of the two 10.8 lb. Speckled (Spotted Sea Trout) trout he caught is still on display at the Hackberry Hilton Hunting Club on Black Lake.
Kennedy enrolled at the-then University of Southwestern Louisiana under the auspices of the GI Bill. Prior to graduation, He went to work with South Central Bell (SCB), first as a lineman.
He progressed through several positions with SCB until he was promoted to regional manager here. He retired from SCB as regional manager.
Upon retirement, he and his wife renovated a home on Spring Bayou in Marksville, La.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen Griffin Kennedy of Marksville; a special daughter, Aliana Whitney-Zepeda and her children, Madeline and Aidan Zepeda; a nephew, Chad Kennedy of Dallas and his children, Jared, Jonah and Carsyn Kennedy, and a niece, April Kennedy of Lake Charles. Also, a sister-in-law, Carla Griffin, also of Marksville.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Charles Kennedy. The family wishes to thank Chad Kennedy and Richard Louviere for their assistances.

James Kenneth Kleven
James Kenneth Kleven 67, of Westlake , La was called to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021.
James was one of four children born to Kenneth Robert and Verma Jean Kleven, he was born in Lake Charles, La on Dec. 13, 1953.
He attended Welsh High School where he enjoyed playing basketball until graduation in 1973. He was strong in his faith, a long time member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. He was a proud father to his children; coaching his childrens T-Ball teams, taking them fishing and playing basketball with them.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his son Brent Joshua Kleven and his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Brandon (Tanya) Kleven, Jason (Erica) Kleven, and Kelly (Josh) Gorham; his grandchildren, Danika, Ava, McKenna, Emma, Owen, and Noah; his siblings, Kurt (Judy) Kleven of Westlake, Kaye Avery of Westlake, and Keith (Genia) Kleven of Florien, along with numerous extended family.
The family will welcome friends on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 beginning at 5pm to 8pm at University Baptist Church 4505 Lake St. Lake Charles LA 70605. A rosary to be prayed at 6pm. Visitation to resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church of Westlake led by Father Mike Barras. He will be laid to rest at Lebleu Cemetery in Fenton, LA.

Raymond W. Kuhlthau, Jr. 67, of Sulphur passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Chester, S.C. on Jan. 6, 2021.
He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years Cindy, son Brannon, father “Pete” and beloved search and rescue dog “Raine”.
Ray is survived by daughter Joanie Rae Warren (scott) of S.C., daughter Brittany, son Scott (Vanessa) of Sulphur, mother Joanne, sister Nancy Briggs (Steve) of Moss Bluff, brother Mark (Kala) of Sulphur and five grandchildren.
A native of Spotswood, N.J., Ray dedicated his life to firefighting, joining the Spotswood Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad at age 17. After moving to Moss Bluff in 1977 he became a member of the Moss Bluff VFD, Sulphur and Lake Charles fire departments. After retiring as their Training Officer, Emergency Service Instructor, EMT.
Never late to a fire, that same thing can’t be said for family vacations, birthdays and other special events which always had to wait until after he returned from a call. “You name it, I’ve done it” was a true statement about Ray. Always having two or three jobs at a time Ray was also Asst Chief of Ward 6 VFD in Sulphur and on “his own time and dime” traveled the area to help train other underserved, rural fire departments to ensure that everyone had basic firefighter training, only asking for a meal as compensation.
The family would like to thank the Sulphur Fire Dept, Luke Oestriecher and the awesome Jerrie St. neighbors for always being at the ready these last several years, for old “Crazy Ray”. A true one of a kind. You are sorely missed.

Wade Pitts
Wade Pitts, age 66, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 at the Carpenter House in Lafayette.
Wade served in the United States Air Force during which time he developed an interest in electronic systems and decided to persue a career in electrcial engineering.
He became a member of the I.B.E.W Local 861 and worked as a Journeyman Wireman Electrician and an Electrical Apprenticeship Instructor at Sowela Technical Institute.
Wade graduated from McNeese State universtiy in December 1984 with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at multiple companies throughout his career and retired from Grace Davison in 2005.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jean Pitts.
Wade will be remembered for his wit, sense of humor, and dedication to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James Thomas Platt, Sr., 93, of Lake Charles passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 in Baton Rouge.
A native of Monroe, J.T. was a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He was an architect and designed numerous buildings and homes in south Louisiana and Lake Charles, including the Lake Charles Civic Center. He, and his wife Auty, were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles where he was a deacon and a choir member for many years. He was very active in the community and served on the Library Board for Calcasieu Parish. He also served for a time on the Board of Trustees of Louisiana College.
Preceding J.T. in death are his parents, Robert Walter and Lelia Mae Byargeon Platt, as well as his eight siblings. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory, his wife, Auty Leach Platt, Lake Charles; two sons, J.T. Platt, Jr., Vancouver, B.C.; and Tim Platt and his wife, Angi, Farmers Branch, Texas; two daughters, Nona Platt, Glendale, Utah; and Debbie Harris and her husband, Buddy, Orange, TX, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and extended family.
As to J.T.’s wishes, his remains were cremated under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Due to the pandemic, no immediate gathering or memorial service is planned.

KINDER – A Mass of Christian Burial for Geneva Smith Richard, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Rev. Trey Ange will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Oak Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021 from 3-9 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a lifelong devout Catholic and was very proud of her Catholic heritage. Geneva was a devoted wife to her first husband, Julius Marcantel, for 23 years until his passing in January 1980. She later married her second husband, Charles Richard, and has been a devoted wife to him for the past 40 years. She was a beautician, housewife and also worked as an activity director at the Kinder Nursing Home. After moving to Lafayette, she then began working at the Greenhouse Senior Center as an activity director. She loved to help others enjoy life just as she enjoyed hers. Geneva loved to sew; making clothes for herself, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Geneva’s memory include her husband, Charles J. Richard of Lafayette; one son, Julian Marcantel and wife, Karen, of Oberlin; three daughters, Regina Burnitt and husband, Donald, of Kinder, Shelly Underwood and husband, Joe, of Lake Charles, and Karla Depew and husband, David, of Carencro; two step-sons, Gary Richard and wife, Tekila, of Spring, Texas and Michael Richard and wife, Stephanie, of Abbeville; two step-daughters, Terry Demette of Lafayette and Jackey Richard of New Iberia; nine grandchildren, Brandy, Kevin, Amanda, Aaron, Megan, Trey, Sarah, Logan and Ava; and nine great grandchildren.
Geneva is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Monroe Smith and Aline Hebert Smith; her first husband, Julius Marcantel; two brothers, Henry and Harold Smith; and three sisters, Marie Arceneaux, Ida Autin and Lerline Vincent.

Velma Lee Reese Richard
Velma Lee Reese Richard, 80, of Westlake passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2020 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Richard was born on May 12, 1940 in Bartlesville, Ok.
She will be remembered for her giving heart, always willing to help others. Mrs. Richard was an avid baker and loved to cook for her church friends and family. She was a member of Eastwood Pentecostal Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Alfred J. “Boe” Richard of Westlake; sons, William Henry “Bill” Cannon (Penny) of Lake Charles and Shawn Clinton Richard (Rebecca) of Westlake; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her furry companion, Duke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and William Reese; twin sister, Verna M. Madore; sisters, Ada Lorene Roche and Jane A. Dillon; and brother, Clarence Murray.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at Eastwood Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Aaron Lopez will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the start of the service.

Marlin Keith Roberts
Marlin Keith “O’Pa” Roberts, 70, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, fought a courageous 20 month battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. On Jan. 28, 2021, Marlin joined his parents, Samuel and Edwina Sonnier Roberts; his sister and brother in law, Delores and Robert Young; his brother, Reginald Roberts; and his parents in law, Guy and Olga Hymel in Heaven.
Born in Lake Charles, La, Marlin spent his boy to young adulthood in Moss Bluff, Louisiana. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After training, he was stationed at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. There Marlin was involved in several top secret research projects.
In 1977, Marlin graduated from Southwest Louisiana with a Bachelor Degree in Geology. His career as an exploration geologist for several Lafayette, Louisiana companies, gradually led to his working as an independent geologist. He continued his work exploring the South Louisiana region for many years.
After living in Lafayette for most of his career, he retired to Hot Springs in 2017. It was a dream of Marlin’s, who loved camping, hiking, canoeing, and the beauty of all God’s creation, to live on a lake. He considered being so near the water on Lake Hamilton a blessing.
Marlin was a kind and gentle man, always ready to help others. He will be missed by so many, but especially by his wife of 32 years, Sharon Hymel Roberts; his brothers Melvin (Tammy) and Lannie (Devita) Roberts; his bonus sons Chad (Jeanne) and Michael Wright (Stacy Courville); and his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and happiness- Chase, Allie, Bailey and Amy Wright.
Due to Covid, no services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ali Krisht and his medical team, Dr. Jamie Burton and her staff, Arkansas Hospice, Dr. Hunter Carrington, and the wonderful neighbors they have in Light House Cove.

Minnie Mayo Troutman Sayes, 99, of Lake Charles passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 in a healthcare facility in Kilgore, Texas.
Mrs. Sayes was a native of Strong, Ark. and lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She worked many years as a teacher for Calcasieu Parish School Board and Private Christian Schools. She found great value in teaching, both in the classroom and at home. The daughter of a Methodist Preacher, Mrs. Sayes loved the Lord, her church and being an active member of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sayes also enjoyed music, singing and following her retirement, flower gardening.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Paul Troutman of Nashville, TN, Marilyn Nixon and husband Tom of Lake Charles and Lamar Troutman and wife Vickie of Green Valley, AZ; one grandchild, Robert Brinlee and wife Rachel of Huntingtown, MD and their children, Holly and Levi.
She was preceded in death by her husband and children’s father, Robert Paul Troutman; second husband, Luther Sayes; parents, Rev. Claudius and Lucinda Hoffpauir Mayo; three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021 at Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Weldon Bares will officiate. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
The family of Mrs. Sayes wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Rosewood Nursing Center, The Willows of Kilgore Texas and Harbor Hospice for the quality and loving care provided to their mother in her last years.
In accordance with state Covid regulations, attendees for services are respectfully requested to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.

James Darrell Wiggins
James Darrell Wiggins, 88, of Lake Charles passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021 in his residence.
Darrell was born on Dec. 3, 1932 in Oakdale, La to James Addison and Dovie Ballard Wiggins. He graduated from Oakdale High School & McNeese State University.
His hobbies included, stealing watermelons as a kid, sleeping in church as an adult, burning the piney woods of Oakdale, outrunning the cops on his Harley with his precious dogs in tow, running his ship ashore, and pranking his family. He spent most of his days covered in sawdust, building pallets, and drinking his beloved elixir, coffee.
Darrell was a God loving, wife fearing, kid at heart. He cherished his family above all else.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Suzanne Lea Harvey, and Lizabeth Jane Wiggins; grandchildren, Amanda Harvey, and Travis Harvey; brother, Shelly Wiggins of Many, LA; sister, Joyce Ponder of Natchitoches, La.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Wiggins, his brother, Guy Wiggins, sister, Ruth McDaniel, and his parents.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at Sale Street Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Travis Harvey will be the celebrant. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be Monday in the church from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. *Mask required… Please respect social distancing.
