Myra Virginia Posey Myers moved into the presence of her
Lord and Savior on Jan. 7, 2021, surrounded by family. Oh death, where is thy sting? Oh grave, where is thy victory? For to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord, forever by His side. We can only imagine!
Myra, one
of eight children, was born Oct. 13, 1926 to Robert Earl, Sr. and Mamie Evans Posey in Haynesville, La, near the Arkansas border. She spent most of her childhood and youth in Mansfield, La. While attending school, Myra was actively involved in
softball, music, Girl’s Auxiliary, and Young Women’s Auxiliary. She had leading roles in several plays and operettas. Myra also placed in State Rallies in Music, Math and Algebra, where she always earned recognition within the top three. Myra
graduated from Mansfield High School as an honor student and worked at a law firm prior to and after graduation.
Myra married James (Jim) S. Myers on April 4, 1946. They lived in Mansfield and Logansport, and she worked seven years for the
DeSoto Parish Department of Public Welfare. They moved to Dequincy, La in1953, where she worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad. After two years, they made Lake Charles their home and together raised seven children. Myra worked for Jud Rivers Sporting
Goods, Lake Charles American Press, and retired from the Department of Labor after 21 years of service. Myra was known and respected by business, industry and those seeking career placement, for her unique ability to match employees with employers;
she took great pride in helping others in so many ways.
Myra made Jesus her Lord and Savior at the age of nine and was a faithful apostle who loved the Lord and carried the good news (to those who would and would not listen) all the days
of her life. Myra taught Sunday School Classes in Primary and Youth Departments several years, and in the Adult Department for over 45 years at Twelfth Street Baptist and Boulevard Baptist churches, doing what she enjoyed most, serving the Lord. Myra
served as Mission Program Chairman for the day group for many years at Boulevard Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in various choirs throughout her Christian life, visiting new church prospects, the infirmed and nursing home friends. At the time of
her death, she was a member of Lake City Baptist Church, and The Church on Holly Hill Road.
Myra was gifted with a special heart, touching many lives wherever she went. Myra loved her children and was so proud of them, their
accomplishments, the outstanding adults they became and how caring and generous they were. Myra’s greatest desire in life was that all her children and family would accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and walk daily with Him. Her deepest
prayer was that each would carry the cross from generation to generation so that not one soul would be lost. Her challenge to each lives on.
Above all, Myra was an apostle of Christ, and loved in a way that magnified the love of Christ.
Myra’s life is an amazing example of strength, courage and devotion. She will be dearly missed, but her life and love will continue to live through those whom she loved most.
Those left to cherish her Godly life and carry on the mission
are her children, Sharon Watson of Lake Texoma, Texas, Patsy Langton Myers, daughter-in-law of Florien, Louisiana, Tim (Candace Carnahan) Myers of Sulphur, Nancy (Ron) Johnson, Eddie (JoAnn Bennett) Myers, Brenda Myers, and Leisa Myers,
daughter-in-law, all of Lake Charles; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grand-children; Myra’s sisters Helen Radford of Mansfield, La, and Betty Gentry of N. Richland Hills, Texas; Frances Posey, sister-in-law, of Minden La, and a host of dear nieces,
nephews and Christian friends, far too many to name.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mamie Posey; husband Jim Myers; her oldest and youngest sons, Rev. Mike Myers (Master of Divinity, Dr. of Ministries) and Phil Myers;
son-in-law Larry Watson; brothers Robert and Jimmy Posey; sisters Lyntine Ricks, Doris McCuller, and Louise Odum; very close friend, Geneva McInnis, long time neighbor and friend, Mildred Mason; and many other Christian friends, who, no doubt, are
celebrating their reunion in Heaven.
Funeral services for Myra will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2021, at Lake City Baptist Church on Holly Hill Road in Lake Charles, La. The Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate the service. Burial will follow
immediately following the service at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be at 11am until the time of the service.
