Bunice Mary Broussard
Bunice Mary Broussard, 96, of Lake Charles, passed into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, in her home. She was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Maurice, La.; the twelfth of seventeen children. She was a parishioner at St. Margaret Catholic Church for many years. Her passion in life was her family and faith. Family meals were so important to her and were held on Sundays for lunch. She was a seamtress and never charged for her services. She always felt it was a gift from God.
She is survived by six children, Faye Savant and husband Kerry of Iowa, La., Lynn Broussard and wife Debbie of Lake Charles, Kenneth Broussard and wife Linda of Lake Charles, Jerry Broussard and wife Sheila of Sulphur, Gilbert Broussard and wife Gayla of Moss Bluff, Mary Beth Fendley and husband Brent of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Toni Mora (Jeremy), Jolene Martinez (Justin), Jason Broussard, Jackie Guidry, John Broussard II (Natalie), Justin Broussard, Rebeka Myers (Joe), John David Broussard, Derrick Fendley (Jenel), Alicia Fendley, Brandon Fendley; 12 great grandchildren, Jordyn, Justin, Jesse, Jacob, Carl, Grayson, Stella, Bailey, Jasper, Malorie, Emersyn, and Mia; along with 1 great great grandson, Bentley.
Bunice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, John D. Broussard; two grandchildren, Nicole Savant, Jeremy Savant; one great grandchild, Addisyn Fendley; along with 16 brothers and sisters.
Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.

Georgiann Marie Dressler Compton
Georgiann Marie Dressler Compton died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the age of 85.
Georgiann was born on September 29, 1935 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her parents were Randolph Hearst Dressler Sr., Daisy Emert Dressler, and Lucy Brantley Dressler. She graduated from St. Charles Academy in 1954 where she made lifelong friends that she continued to see throughout her life. After her children were born, she continued her education and earned a degree as a registered nurse from McNeese State University in 1979. Through her work as a nurse, Georgiann met her beloved husband, Bill Compton. They were married on June 15, 1979 and have shared a life filled with joy and companionship.
Georgiann had a deep faith and was a devout Catholic who shared her faith in Christ with her family, friends, and numerous people she met along the way. She always made time to listen to others, and she treated everyone with patience, kindness, and respect. She loved to read, travel, dance, listen to music, go to church, and have Sunday dinners with her family. She lived a life filled with love, faith, and family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Compton; her brother, Waddell Burge; her sister-in-law, Jan Dressler, her 10 children, 2 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. She leaves behind her beloved children to mourn her passing; Deborah Bertrand, Jimmie “Jimbo” Watson, Jr. (Charity), Kenny Watson (Darla), Colleen Watson, Sharon Schon (Jim), Jessica Watson, Linda Watson, Angela Runyon (Chuck), Charlie Watson (Jennifer), and Ardella Hill.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph Dressler, Daisy Emert Dressler, and Lucy Dressler; her brothers, Irvin Dressler, Randolph “Buddy” Dressler, Jr., Edison “Ed” Burge, and Francis Dressler; her sister, Honore Faithe “Tootsie” Burton; her son-in-law, Mark Bertrand; and her great grandson, Erik Pedersen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church led by Monsignor Jace Eskind on Thursday, December 10 at 1 pm with visitation before the Mass beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at University Baptist Church in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9 from 5 pm – 8 pm with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 pm.

Captain John L. Johnson
Fire Captain John Louis “J. J.” (P-John) Johnson, 62, died Dec. 3, while at work at the Lake Charles Fire Department.
He was born in Pineville and graduated from Rapides High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army, where he served for four years before being discharged at Ft. Polk.
After his discharge he joined the Alexandria Fire Department where he worked for five years. On Sept. 1, 2000, J.J. joined the Lake Charles Fire Department as a hoseman. In 2005 he was promoted to driver and in 2011 he became a Captain. He served at Company 7 for many years before transferring to Company 3.
He is survived by his wife, Tanika Edwards Johnson, a son, Jaylon Edwards of Lake Charles, three daughters, Johnalyssa Washington (James) of Houston, Allison Johnson of Lake Charles and Hawaia Jennings of Franklin, La.
He is also survived by his mother, Lucille Johnson of Lecompte, La., five brothers James E. Johnson (Karen) of Dallas, Terry Johnson and Larry (Paula) Johnson both of Houston, Steve Johnson and Michael Johnson of Lecompte, a sister Patricia Johnson (Robert) of Lecompte, also seven grandchildren and five godchildren Shalonda Busch, Marie Clark, Mark Woodruff, Mallory Chatman, and Messiah Glodd, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other in-laws and friends, a beloved father-in-law Ernest Edwards (Yvette), and mother-in-law Barbara Spiller.
His father, James Henry Johnson preceded him in death.
Captain Johnson’s funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Revs. Tommy Johnson and Fire Department Chaplain, Bart Leger will officiate. Visitation at the church will be from 10 a.m. until service time.
Military honors will be conducted by a detail from Ft. Polk and the Lake Charles Fire Department will conduct graveside services at Consolata
Cemetery.
In accordance with state regulations, attendees for visitation and services are respectfully asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.

Jerome Walter Nortman
Jerome Walter Nortman, age 84, was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Orange Grove, Texas, and passed away Nov. 28, 2020, at his residence in DeQuincy.
Jerome “Pepaw” is a man that will not only be missed by his family but a host of friends, as he never met a stranger. His favorite person in the world to be with was his wife, who he told every night before he went to sleep that he loved her. Jerome was the kind of father that earned him the title of “best friend” to each of his sons. He was always ready to help his family with every task and never wanted to be left out of any event. If Jerome didn’t know you, it didn’t take long before he knew much about you. He was a hard-working man, full of life and never left you wondering what he was thinking.
Jerome loved and respected God and prayed his rosary daily. He took his sons to church and made it known that God was important.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Deanna Louise Dickens Nortman; his sons, Randy Nortman and wife, Darlene; Terry Nortman and wife, Lisa; Mark Nortman and wife, Mechele; and Tim Nortman and wife, Stacy; grandchildren, Ambra Kent and husband, Matt; Chez Nortman; Lauren Royer and husband, Dustin; John Michael Ashmore; Kayla Pace and husband, Lance; Kelly Menou and husband, Phillip; Chet Nortman and wife, Heather, Bret Singletary and husband, Garrett; Sean Bean and wife, Dinah; Matt Bean and wife, Brittany; Hunter Nortman; and Collin Nortman; great-grandchildren, Rowan Kent, Ezra Kent, Jayden Vincent, Sarah Royer, Landry Menou, Declan Pace, Clancy Singletary, Olivia Bean, Sophia Bean, Owen Bean, and Samuel Bean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Nortman and Josephine Tschoepe Nortman, sister Willie Mae Gault and brother, Henry William Nortman.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, with a Rosary to be held at 6 p.m. at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, La. The funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at Our Lady of LaSalette Church, DeQuincy, La., with interment to follow in Perkins Cemetery, DeQuincy, La.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, La.

John E. Sorrells, Jr., M.D.
John E. Sorrells, Jr., M.D., passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, in Lafayette, La., where he had been since evacuating for Hurricane Laura.
He was born in Lake Charles, La., on Sept. 26, 1937, he was 83 years old. He was a graduate of Lagrange High School and went to Louisiana College and McNeese State University. He graduated Medical School at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1965. After completing medical school, he served in the United States Army as a Captain and was stationed in San Antonio and later transferred to Shreveport, Louisiana. He then moved his family to his hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana where he set up his solo Ophthalmology practice. He eventually joined the Eye Clinic of Lake Charles until he retired shortly after the passing of his bellowed wife of 49 years, Marlene.
Dr. Sorrells was an avid outdoorsman who cherished passing on those traditions to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also a musician and loved playing the trumpet in the Lake Charles Community Band. He was a long-time member of the family at St. John’s Lutheran Church where he also played and sang in the choir. He was actively involved in Scouting and strived to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Dr. Sorrels was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Sorrells, his parents, Dr. John E. Sorrells and Bertha Gwin Sorrells, his brother, Robert Sorrells and his daughter-in-law, Donna Hannon Sorrells.
He is survived by his sister, Gwin Sorrells Jones and her husband the Reverend Ross Jones. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are Cynthia Rice and her husband Jay Rice, John E. Sorrells, III, Teddy Paul Sorrells and his wife Kelly Speed Sorrells. His grandchildren are Cynthia’s son Jason Barton and his wife Amanda Barton, Stephanie Dunker and her husband Jeremy Dunker, and Ted and Kelly’s sons Hayden Paul Sorrells and Ashton John Sorrells. His great grandchildren are Jason and Amanda’s children Bryce Barton and Elyse Barton and Stephanie and Jeremy’s children Ethan Dunker and Abigale Dunker.
The family would like to thank their dear friend Barbara Marshall for her years of service with the family and especially her care for dad. The family would also like to thank his recent caregivers, Travis Celestine, Karmyn Robertson, Nita Trailer and Mary Thibeaux along with the nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Lake Charles Community Band and/or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at Lake City Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.

Todd Anthony “Graybow” Stracner, 57, of DeRidder, La., passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 22 years, Rebecca Stracner of DeRidder, La.; sons, Jared Stracner of Alexandria, La., Chance Stracner and Adalyn of DeRidder, La., Ryan Thompson of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Monica McCarty and Jason of Evans, La., Alison Dyer and Nathan of Oakdale, La., Danielle Siebuhr and Kyle of St. Charles, Mo.; father, Don Stracner and Lyndal of Leesville, La.; brothers, Jeffrey Stracner and LaTonya of New Caney, Texas, Hugh Dubose and Deby of DeRidder, La.; sisters, Angela Hayes and Robert of DeRidder, La., Helen Larue Luttrell of DeRidder, La.; grandchildren, Kailey, Tyler, Emery and Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Syble Stracner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Pastor Rod Buller will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Joseph Stracner, Jonah Stracner, Cory Willey, Chris Moses, Siranna Stracner and Vinny Venturella. Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, La.
