Huey Percy Carter Sr.
Huey Percy Carter Sr. departed from this earth on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at 1:30 a.m. in Lake Charles for his heavenly home, “A city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (Hebrews 11:10) We must not mourn as those without hope. Brother Carter has gone to get the great reward promised to all who faithfully serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was baptized at an early age. In the year of 1995, he accepted Christ in his heart. God renewed his walk in the Lord at Pasadena Missionary Baptist Church, under the Leadership of the Rev. L.T. Thomas. He then, united in faith with New Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the Leadership of the Rev. Earl Miller, until the Rev. Miller’s departure to heaven. He continued his Christian walk with the Rev. Lee Wilson, Riverside Baptist Church as a Deacon until his passing.
Brother Carter was born on March 17, 1936, to the late Geneva Powell Carter and the late Kelly Carter. He became a loving father at an early age with the birth of his eldest son, Arthur James Poullard Sr. He then married his childhood sweetheart Lulaina Guillory. To this union, eight children were born. He later married Darlene Tillman and to that union he embraced two children. Brother Carter always accepted God as the head of his life. He and his loving family were always active, devoted, and faithful. He strived to keep peace and helped nurture spiritual, educational cares and life concerns. He taught us the fear of the Lord and encouraged others to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
He was educated in the Calcasieu Parish School System and was a proud graduate of Washington High School in the year of 1959. He became a dedicated soldier for the U.S. Army Reserve for 20 years and retired as Sergeant 1st Class. He was a hard-working man that held various jobs. He made history by being the first African American to be a seller and driver for 7UP and Jax Beer Company in the early 1960s. He was an entrepreneur for many years. His favorite pastime was the game of Dominoes and he loved to share a word or two.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; his brother, Willie D. Carter; and his children, Arthur James Poullard Sr., Patricia Carter Young-Brown, Eric Kelly Carter and James N. Carter; one grandson, Alfred Samuel Young; and one great-grandson, Emmanuel Young.
Leaving to cherish his memories: one sister, Josephine Bennett; one sister-in-law, Virginia Love; and eight children, Cherlyn (Eddie) Martin, Huey (Marilyn) Carter Jr., Debra Carter Rachel, Cynthia (James) Brown Sr., Mark Anthony Carter Sr., Dana (Kenneth) Pettus; two daughters-in-law, Bertha Poullard and Veronica Darbonne, both of Lake Charles, La.; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dr. Ronnie Ray Ceasar Sr., 67, departed this life on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, in New Orleans, La. He was born May 11, 1953, to Lester Cezar and Hazel M. Brown Cezar in Lafayette, La.
Dr. Ron was the oldest of 8 children and grew up in Allen Parish, La. He graduated from Kinder High School, Grambling State University with a degree in Accounting, in 2008, and Southern University of Baton Rouge with an Master’s in Business Administration and Ph. D.
He was a civil rights warrior and has networks all over the state of Louisiana. He was president and CEO of Ceasar’s Accounting Tax Services Inc., People of Weighing Equal Rights Inc., (or POWER, Inc.), and The Reporter News Magazine. He founded P.O.W.E.R. in 1990.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Knight of Columbus, Knight of Peter Claver, Holy Name Society Member, Member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Life Member of NAACP, Grambling Alumni Association, Naval Officer of the United States Navy, Candidate for Governor in 2011 and U.S. Congress in 2012 (5th Congressional District).
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Cheryl Ceasar (Jermaine) of Lake Charles, La., and Deanna Ceasar of New Orleans, La.; the mother of his children and former wife of 28 years, Joyce Decarlo Ceasar, to whom he remained a friend; his siblings, Dan Ceasar, (Mary) of Shreveport, La., Nettie Scott (Joseph) of Lafayette, La., Orelia Ceasar of Lake Charles, La., Irene Fontenot, (Mike) of Rayne, La.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Hazel Cezar; two sons, Ronnie Ray Ceasar Jr., and Randall Cezar; five brothers, Tommy Ceasar, Clifton Ceasar, Eddie Cezar, Odom Cezar and Jimmy Cezar; and one sister, Velma Ceasar.
A public walk-up visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. family visitation at 12:30 p.m., and a private funeral service for immediate family at 1:30 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ceasar Cemetery in Duralde, La., under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.

Everlise “Sister” Collins, 66, was born Dec. 4, 1953, in Kinder, La., to Eula Mae Neil Collins and the late Cleveland John Collins Sr. A resident of Lake Charles, she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member. She was a 1972 graduate of Marion High School. Everlise loved serving God and loved everyone. She departed this life Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at 7:32 p.m. in St. Patrick Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Eula Mae Collins; one sister, Linda (Dwayne) Siddell Sr.; one brother, Cleveland J. Collins Jr.; her nephew, she helped raise like a son, Cleveland J. Collins III; one godchild, Dwayne Siddell Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Cleveland J. Collins Sr.; and sisters, Juanita Collins and Ethel Simon. Her visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, from 8 a.m. with her funeral following at 9:30 a.m. at First New Life Baptist Church, Pastor Dwight Barker. Her pastor, Braylon Harris will officiate. Adeline Stella DesOrmeaux
SULPHUR — Adeline “Stella” DesOrmeaux, 99, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020.
Mrs. DesOrmeaux was born in Abbeville on March 2, 1921. She graduated from Vinton High School and was involved in theater, debate, basketball, and was crowned Homecoming Queen, a great point of pride. She lived the majority of her life in Carlyss, where she enjoyed cooking for large family gatherings and visiting with grandchildren. She also liked gardening and sewing costumes for her many granddaughters and worked briefly at Mullers as a seamstress. Stella traveled with her husband throughout North America for decades, often in a motorhome. After joining the Elite Club, many countries in Europe were also visited. She accompanied her granddaughter’s gymnastics team on a tour of Poland where she became everyone’s Granny. Her community involvement included time with the PTA, FFA, and Lions Club.
Her memory will be honored by her large family, including her sons, Johnny DesOrmeaux and wife Annette of Carlyss, Philip DesOrmeaux and wife Lori of Iowa, and Steven DesOrmeaux and wife Chris of Sulphur; her son-in-law, Michael Guidry of Carlyss; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dudley Paul DesOrmeaux; daughters, Mary Ann Guidry and Nancy Lee Ortego; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chauvin; older siblings, Earl Chauvin, George Chauvin, Irving Chauvin, Pearl Chauvin Sensat and Ruby Chauvin Sensat; along with many other loved ones and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss. The Rev. Luke Krzanowski, M.S. will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family would like to give special thanks to all of her caregivers at Stonebridge Place Care Unit and Harbor Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Theos Duhon
Theos Duhon, 75, a long time Deputy Sheriff, and two-term Cameron Parish Sheriff, whose career in law enforcement spanned almost 50 years, died Tuesday in a Lake Charles hospital with his wife Sallye at his side.
Theos began his career in law enforcement as a patrol deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department. He rapidly worked his way up to become an assistant to Jack Hebert in the newly formed Calcasieu Parish Narcotics Division, eventually becoming supervisor of the narcotics division. established by then Sheriff Henry A. Reid Jr.
Under his leadership the Calcasieu Parish Narcotics Division became well known, working closely with the DEA, FBI, the United States Marshal’s service, and numerous local agencies along the Gulf Coast.
He retired from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1980 but was soon lured to the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office by Sheriff James R. “Sono” Savoie. He served as Chief Deputy until the retirement of Sheriff Savoie, Theos ran and was elected Sheriff in 2004, a position he held until his eventual retirement in 2012.
He served Cameron Parish during the aftermath of Hurricane Rita, often saying it was one of the most stressful times in his law enforcement career.
Theos was a native and life resident of Lake Charles where he attended LaGrange Senior High School. He was an outstanding football player earning, All District and All State honors and attended McNeese State University on an athletic scholarship.
He is survived by his wife, Sallye Dillon Duhon; one sister, Sandra Duhon Bernard; as well as nieces and nephews, Charlotte Landry and her husband David, Karen Hutto and her husband Clinton, Danny Bernard and Scott Bernard and his wife Nancy. He is also survived by a great niece, Bonnie Bernard.
Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. A private service with full police honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Consolata Cemetery.

Charmaine Letty Fontenot, 60, departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, La. She was born Sept. 15, 1959, to Roy Morrison and Sheldon Anita Wolfe in New Orleans, La. She was a director at Evergreen Daycare Center until her retirement. She loved to read, visit with family and friends and going to church where she was a faithful member of United Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Ronald Mayo.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 37 years, Wilbert Fontenot Jr.; two brothers, Kirk McPherson and Dana Morrison; two sisters, Debra McPherson and Lamar Wolfe; eight nieces, eight nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Morrison and Sheldon Anita Wolfe.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at 9 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. at King’s Funeral Home, Pastor Keith bell, officiating. Burial will follow in Orange Grove Cemetery under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.

Lawrence Guidry
Lawrence Guidry was born on June 15, 1929, to Jack and Adolphina Guidry in Carencro, La. He was the fourth of five siblings, Bertha Arceneaux, Evelyn Andrus, Leroy Guidry and Paola Henry. He was baptized as an infant at Assumption Catholic Church and remained a devout Catholic until his death. He matriculated through Lafayette Parish Schools.
Lawrence moved to Lake Charles in the late 1940s where he worked for Lake Charles water company for 42 years before he retired in 1991. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a devoted member of the Saturday Evening Mass choir since the early 1970s. Lawrence believed that one man’s trash was another’s and made a hobby of collecting other people “treasures” to resell.
Lawrence married Dorothy M. Guidry of Lake Charles on March 27, 1967; together this union produced one child, Paul Guidry (Yvette). They joined together as family 11 other children, Winifred Guidry Augustus, Gervis Guidry, Margaret Guidry Lawrence (Donnie), Wanda Gray (Louis), Cecil Gordon, Michael Briscoe, Joseph Rubit (Carolyn), Juanita Jacob (Donald), Lester Rubit, Donald Rubit and Laura Ann Rubit Ahmed (Abas). Lawrence departed this life on July 29, 2020, peacefully in his sleep. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; siblings; and two children, Cecil and Donald. In addition to his children, he leaves behind his 1st cousins, Eva Dell George and Linton Cormier; loving sister-in-law, Anna Belle August; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.

Gloria Marie Newcomer Hebert
Gloria Marie Newcomer Hebert was born in 1929 in Sweetlake, La. Her parents, Frank and Elsie raised Gloria, and her six brothers and sisters in Lake Charles, La. Gloria was the last surviving sibling.
Gloria had exceptional success in school and in 1947, in her senior year, she was voted Class President, Best Citizen and was Editor of the Lake Charles High Wildcat Yearbook. After graduation, she lived at home and worked for a local bank and eventually began working for Cities Services. During high school, she began dating a local boy, Jerry Hebert, whom she later married. After he graduated from dental school, he enlisted in the Navy as an officer and the couple was assigned to a station outside of Memphis, Tenn. It was there that their first child, Michael was born.
In 1955, her husband was accepted into the orthodontic residency program at the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, so they rented a small apartment south of the city. Gloria stayed there with Michael everyday and was a very devoted mother. She and Michael returned to Lake Charles for the delivery of her second child, a daughter, named Catherine. Her husband finished his training and began the first orthodontic practice in Lake Charles. They had three more sons, Paul, James and Louis. All children are surviving and are married with children.
At age 41, Gloria and Jerry were planning a trip out of the country. A suspicious lump in her left breast demanded immediate biopsy. It was carcinoma which in 1970 was treated with a radical mastectomy, radiation therapy, and a complete hysterectomy. She became very ill as a result of this treatment and her marriage went into a rapid decline. After her divorce, she enrolled as a freshman at McNeese in accounting. She continued to raise five children and attended classes towards her degree. In 1974, she received a Bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in accounting. She returned to work at CITCO and insured that all five of her children would be college graduates and responsible citizens. All in total, her children have acquired 44 years of higher education, many with advanced degrees. She is the proud mother of an environmental scientist, an endodontist, two petroleum engineers and a cardio-vascular surgeon.
While she was building her retirement home in Mandeville, Gloria was helping with the care and cooking meals for her older sister, Margaret and her husband, and for another housebound sister in law, Dottie. During retirement, Gloria has enjoyed her 8 grandchildren and pursued her interests in traveling, gardening, reading biographies, Mediterranean cuisines and other cultural activities. She attended St. Timothy’s Methodist Church in Mandeville, La., and was a model and charter resident at Beau Provence Memory Care facility since 2014.

Julie “Jules” Ann Trahan Maust
Julie “Jules” Ann Trahan Maust passed away on Aug. 5, 2020, following a hard fought battle with ALS. Julie was born in Lake Charles on Aug. 4, 1968, and grew up in Crowley. She was a 1986 graduate of Notre Dame High School. Julie attended McNeese State University and worked in the technology industry at Bravo Networking, Didelot Consulting and spent many years at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School as network administrator. In recent years, she was active in the Barataria Mardi Gras Krewe and in fundraising for the Family Foundation and Family and Youth. She was also a member of the Lake Charles Racquet Club, founding member of the Shannon Cox Counseling Center, a division of Family and Youth, and a very active member of the Orange Theory of Lake Charles. She also attended Mass at the Chapel of Christus St. Patrick’s Hospital.
Jules was married to Dr. Jay R. Maust II and together they enjoyed many years of traveling, fishing, and watching Saints Football. She will also be greatly missed by her oldest daughter, Nadia Farque and her husband Jared of Ragley, by her youngest daughter, Hailey McPherson and her husband Jake of Atlanta, Ga.; and especially by her three grandchildren, Joey, Hayden, and Hadleigh Farque, with whom she shared some of her happiest times.
Additionally, Julie is survived by her mother, RoyLynn Trahan of Crowley; her in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Jay Maust of San Antonio, Texas; her sisters, Andrea Trahan and her husband Dave of Crowley, Alice Frank and her husband Ted of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeanne Marcantel and her husband Jerome of Lake Charles; her two stepdaughters, London Maust Hannan and her husband Kyle of Gretna, and Sierra Maust of Austin, Texas; and two brothers-in-law, Dr. Jon Maust and his wife Mona of San Antonio, Texas, and Dr. Joel Maust of Dallas, Texas.
Julie was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Trahan; her grandparents, Marilyn and Harold Leleux, Roy Lionel Schexnyder, Anniss and Walter Trahan, and her former husband Darren Martin.
Serving as pallbearers are K.P. Gibson, Craig “Fat Cat” Henry, Danny Forest, Mark Myers, Zach Trahan, and Luke Hanks.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 6 p.m. then again on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Lake Charles, with Father Brian King as celebrant. A private burial service will be celebrated at a later date, and interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, La.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice and The Guardian for their compassionate care for Jules. Also, the family is forever grateful to so many others who helped, especially Elleanor Barilleaux, Emily Lewis, Oseas “Flako” Perez, Julia Schmid, Donishia Hall, Wanda Guillory, Tracy Francis, Allie Aucoin, and Satarah Oliver, among others for their dedication to her. Donations in memory of Jules Maust can be made to the ALS Association, to the Family Foundation, or to Family and Youth.
Because of concerns regarding COVID-19, the family requests visitors to wear masks and maintain social distancing guidelines. Also, following the Mass, the family will not be gathering.

ELTON — Henry Luther Pickett, 90, passed away Aug. 5, 2020, in his family home in Elton, LA. Henry will be remembered and cherished as a loving husband and father. He had a strong faith in God. He raised six children with his wife, Anna Mae Granger Pickett to whom he had been married to for 62 years. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren as he had more time to spend with them. His hobbies included playing bingo, gardening, making homemade sausage and boudin, repairing antique furniture and making wood art. He worked in road construction, operated heavy equipment and drove trucks. He was a member of the Sons of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Elton, La., and a honorary member of the Ladies’ Altar Society for his unfailing assistance with their pie sales. He served on the Cemetery Group, was an Usher and Greeter at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Elton, La., until he was no longer physically able to do so. Bishop Glen John Provost awarded Henry the Devoted Service Medal in recognition of the service he rendered to his church parish. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence Knights of Columbus Council 4787 in Hathaway, La., American Legion Post 318, and Disabled American veterans Group of Eunice. He will be deeply missed and always remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna Mae Granger Pickett of Elton, La.; daughters, Melissa Pickett of Elton, La., Rose Mary Cormier and husband Felton Cormier Jr. of Jennings, La.; sons, Charles Pickett of Basile, La., Jeffery Pickett and wife Sonya of Carencro, La., Hiram Pickett and wife Shely Pickett of Jasper, Texas; sisters, Addie Mae Pickett Milligan of Bunkie, La., Beatrice Pickett Langley of Basile, La., and Annie Lee Pickett LaBouve of Basile, La.; brother, Jerry Lee Pickett of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael J. Pickett; Miranda Pickett; his parents, Shelton Henry and Mattie Fuselier Pickett; sister, Azora Louise Pickett Adams; brothers, Lonie D. Pickett, Bobby Pickett, John F. Pickett, Rodney Lee, Shelton P. Pickett, Charles Lee Pickett, Earl Lee Pickett, Robert Pickett, Harold Pickett, and Marion Pickett.
Pallbearers are Michael Pickett Jr., Eric Pickett, Leonard Pickett, Jerome Pickett, Charles Pickett II, Sergio Gumez. Honorary pallbearers are Derek Whitman, Hiram Pickett, Donald Shuff, John Fuselier
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the employees of both the SWLA War Veterans Home and Lamm Hospice for their dedication and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Reed Funeral Home in Kinder, La. Deacon Michael Guillory will officiate. Burial will follow in New St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Visitation will be held for Henry Luther Pickett on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, from 9 a.m. until time of service with an 11 a.m. rosary.

Virginia N. Smith, age 83, of Lake Charles, La., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020. Virginia was born April 30, 1937, to Albert Smith and Lucille Lanier Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory is her son, Robert “Bobby” Smith and wife Vicky of Cypress, Texas; two daughters, Donna Oliver and husband Shawn of Moss Bluff, and Susan Duplechan and husband Gardy of DeRidder; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tommy “Albert” Smith and Eliza of North Carolina; and one sister, Edna Carol Lambert and Neal of Gulfport, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lucille Lanier Smith; her husband, William Kimbrell Smith; two sons, James “Jimmy” Paul Smith and Steven Wayne Smith; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens. Neal Lambert will Officiate at the Services.

Jacqueline Rose Vitatoe, “Miss V”, 65, was born Jan. 8, 1955, in Orange, Texas, to Lloyd Jackson and Earline King. Born in Orange, Texas, she resided in Lake Charles most of her life, where she was a graduate of Marion High School and Grambling State University. She was a retired employee of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Departement after 30 years of service. She departed this life Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at 9:15 a.m. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Ebone and Sharde Vitatoe; one son, Theral King; two sisters, Gina L Bell and Sandra Carter; five brothers, Jerry Geter, Michael Jackson, Joseph, Jerry and Samuel Joe Bell; 12 grandchildren, Margan Lewis, Keashua, Kera, Alissa and Kamron Vitatoe, Eric J. Davis, Amaya and Jani Daigle, Deven Durousseau Jr., Ricky Bernard Jr., Brooklyn Brooks, and Theral King Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Byron January III and Nala Lewis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Geter; and two sisters, Shelia King and Kathy Bell. Her visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, from noon with her funeral following at 2 p.m. at The Lord’s Outreach, Pastor Russell Benoit. The Rev. Denver Lassien will officiate.
