Lenore Mae Husser Airhart, 90, of Moss Bluff, died Friday, July 24, at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles. Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Johnson Funeral Home Moss Bluff. Mary Jane Belton, 80, departed this life on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in Lake Charles, La. She was born Sept. 16, 1939, to Albert Pitre and Orelia Ardoin Pitre in Basile, La.

She leaves to cherish her memories her four children, Harold (Charlotte) Belton, Vanessa Belton, Robert (Lela) Belton and Russell (Rima) Belton; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Orelia Pitre; her husband, Paul Belton; brother, Jimmy Pitre; son, Samuel Belton; and great-grandson, Malicha Freeman.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at 10 a.m. and a rosary at 10:45 a.m at King’s Funeral Home and funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.

Anthony Juan Bennett, 53, was born Dec. 1, 1966, in Lake Charles, La., to the late Lawrence C. and Lavince Ackless Bennett Sr. A life long resident of Lake Charles, he departed this life Friday, July 24, 2020, in a local hospital. He leaves to cherish his memories, his sister, Shirley (Raymond) Payne; and two brothers, Marvin (Rebecca) Bennett Sr. and Darrell (Priscilla) Bennett Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will have a visitation Friday, July 31, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in James Funeral Chapel.

Joan “Jody” Cangelosi Brierty, 88, of Lake Charles, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at the Verandah. A native of New Orleans, she was born Dec. 15, 1931, the daughter of Frank H. and Mary H. (Gauthier) Cangelosi. She was married to Dr. Paul A. Williams Sr. of Rensselaer, Ind., in 1952. In 1984 she was married to the late Dr. Robert E. Brierty Jr. in Lake Charles. Early in their marriage, the Brierty couple were active members of the Lake Charles Racket Club, playing tennis and passing a good time with friends regularly. An established artist, Jody’s paintings have been featured in several galleries throughout the South in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. In 1992, her son Troy preserved her likeness in a sculpture entitled “Love, Strength, and Beauty,” defining her true character. She was indeed a beautiful, strong, woman, loved by all, and her precious memory will live on in the hearts of many.

Survivors include four sons, Paul (Maxine) Williams Jr., Indianapolis, Ind., Thane Williams, Ocean Spring, Miss., Troy (Deborah) Williams, Jemez Springs, N.M., Avery (Racquel) Williams, Moss Bluff, La.; two daughters, Deni Helms, Ocean Springs, Miss., Gabrielle (Jody) Treadwell, Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsons, Robert (Nelly) Brierty III, Houston, Texas, Timothy (Ashley) Brierty, San Antonio, Texas; five stepdaughters, Kathleen (Don) Dodson, Fort Worth, Texas, Colleen (Robert) Beasley, Aspen, Colo., Maureen (Peter) Boyce, Amarillo, Texas, Patricia Corsi, Plano, Texas, Margaret (Jason), Spring Branch, Texas; one sister, Dorothy C. Kramer, Chalmette, La.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Merlie Rose “Bunny” Douglass, Fort Myers, Fla.; and one son-in-law, Ernest J. Helms Jr., Ocean Springs, Miss.

Service will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. with Monsignor Jace Eskind officiating. Visitation will begin prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home, beginning at 10 a.m. until the Rosary at 11 a.m. The service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery.

Sedonia Bobb Carroll

Sedonia Bobb Carroll was born June 30, 1922, to Joseph and Emma Bobb in Washington, La. She departed this life on June 24, 2020, in the comfort of her daughter and longtime caregiver’s home. She was a housewife and a lifelong resident of the state of Louisiana, living in Lake Charles most of her life. She was mother to nine children, and was a faithful member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church where her brother, Cunningham Bobb was the pastor. She later joined New Emmanuel Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of the Rev. Roland E Mouton Jr. until she became too ill to attend.

Sedonia loved many things, including gardening, taking long walks, preparing wonderful meals and caring for her grandchildren, but most of all, she LOVED the Lord as was evidenced by her desire to praise Him in Word and Song to all who would listen. In her latter years, when asked “how are you feeling today mama,” you would be greeted with a song such as “I woke up this morning with my mind, stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!”

She is survived by her children, Doris Miller (Tony), Columbus, Ohio, Lillie Rose Thomas (Johnny), Columbus, Ohio, Larry Carroll, Gail LeBlanc (Davis), Harvey Carroll, Linda Staves (Joseph), all of Lake Charles, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lee Carroll; sons, John (Sonny), James and Donald Ray; both parents; six brothers, Brady, Gus, Joseph, Leroy, Cunningham and Abraham; five sisters, Helen, Pearlie, Joyce, Alice and Anna Belle.

She leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A private gravesite ceremony for immediate family is being planned, and a memorial service will be announced for family and friends at a later date.

LAKE CHARLES — Jimmy Dean Lovett I born on May 18, 1960, went peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in his residence after a lengthy illness, at the age of 60.

Jimmy worked as an auto mechanic and enjoyed fishing and “tinkering” on things. Most of all, Jimmy loved being with family and enjoying special times together.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dee Anna Peloquin; father, Joseph Lovett; sisters, Veronica and Connie Lovett; brothers, Robert and Joseph Lovett.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Carolyn Lovett; sons, James Dean Lovett, Jimmy Dean Lovett II; daughter, Hope Denis Lovett Watkins; siblings, C. W. Lovett (Cindy), Jessie Lovett (Crystal), Mary Camp, Angie Lovett, Frances Fontenot (David), Carolyn Lovett (Andy), Rose Lovett.

Visitation will begin on Friday, July 31, 2020, in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. A Celebration of Jimmy’s life is Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Birdnest Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.

Due to restrictions from the State of Louisiana, Governor John Bel Edwards, the gathering capacity will be limited, facial coverings will be required and no food will be allowed.

Joyce Arabie McComb, 93, of Moss Bluff, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in a local care facility.

Mrs. McComb was born on March 19, 1927, in Elton. She was a lifelong resident of the Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Mrs. McComb had many hobbies including gardening, camping, cooking and raising animals. Most importantly, she loved her family and treasured the time spent with them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeanette Gaspard (LeRoy), June Ann Bailey (Kenneth), Helen Parker (Jimmy), Janie LaCasse (Luther), Karen Duhon (Howard), Rod McComb (Tammie) and Cynthia Mathieu (Max), all of the Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area; a sister, Juanita Thibodeaux of Lake Charles; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney McComb; parents, Maria and Antoine Arabie; grandson, Jason Howard Duhon; and siblings, Elward Arabie, Harold Arabie, Lois Elliott, Frances Lognion and Ruth Arabie.

A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020, in St. Henry Catholic Church. The Rev. Matthew Cormier will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. until leaving for the church at 1:30 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 1 p.m.

Hilrae Mott Sr.

Hilrae Mott Sr. passed away at New Orleans UMC on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was 84 years old. He was born in Lacassine on Feb. 23, 1936. He lived most of his life in Lake Charles, La., with his loving wife, Della Margaret Pelly Mott.

In his early years, Mott was a boxer, including Golden Glove champ with more than 30 fights undefeated and at least 30 won by knockout. Hilrae served in U.S. Army. He laid track for Southern Pacific and loved riding and training horses. He later became a transmission specialist and assisted with drag races at Chenault in the 70s (seventies). Hilrae was also a musician and is the Cajun Music Hall of Fame as the first electric bass player in Cajun music. Mr. Mott played with several notable bands in this area. He worked hard for his family his entire life and loved to read a good western book in his spare time.

Hilrae is survived by his children, Hilrae Mott Jr. and his wife Sharon Trahan Mott of Crowley, Willie Stephen Mott and his wife Myra Carriere Mott of Rayne, Kenneth Paul Mott and his wife Sharon Bailey Mott of Carlisle, Ark., and Denise Marie Perez and her husband Rico Perez of Eugene, Ore. He had nine grandchildren, Jeff Mott, Jason Mott, Tori Lynn Mott, Kerry Kidder, Brittany Theriot, Christopher Smith, Breanna Smith, Olivia Mott and Benjamin Mott; and nine great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brendon, Nathanial, Gabriel, Mia, Valerie, Ellie, Ayda and Kaisen.

He is survived by his siblings, sisters Jean, Wilma, Wilda and Marjorie; and brothers, Stanford, Raymond, Randy, Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alida Pousson Mott; and father, Valentine Mott Sr.; his stepmother, Ruby; his wife, Della Margaret Pelly Mott; his son, Donald Wayne Mott; his grandson, Alexander; his brothers, Curtis, Curley, Lee, Wilton, Junior and Curley Mott; and his sisters, Viola, Hazel, Melva and Bernadine.

In honor of Hilrae’s wishes, the family will not be holding a funeral service.

Patricia Ann Owens, age 84, of Sulphur, La., went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Patricia was born on March 25, 1936, in Lexington, Miss.

Patricia was a graduate of Sulphur High School, Louisiana College, and McNeese State University where she received her Master’s Degree in Education. Patricia was a teacher and a school counselor for Calcasieu Parish School Board for over 28 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur and the Agin Cajun Choir. Her pastime was playing cards and dominos with her friends. Patricia was loved and cherished by her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, Edward Lee Brock Sr. and Nellie Ferguson Brock; brother, Edward Lee Brock Jr.; sister-in-law, Myrtle Brock; and nephew, Donnie Brock.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Lynn Hardy and husband Larry, and Laine Reeder and husband W.D.; son, Larry Owens and wife Tara; grandchildren, Jamie, Tricia, Joey, Monica, Chad, Jeremy, Heather, Ashley, Tyler, Zack and Audie; 15 great-grandchildren and two on the way; three nephews and their families, Mark, Randy and Anthony Brock; and a long time friend, Faye Robinson.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Tom Bruce will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Sulphur.

Earl Rose Robinson Jr., 87, died on July 28, 2020 in a local hospital.

He was a native of Crowley, La., and lived in Lake Charles, La., most of his life. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist where he was a member of the Evangelistic Outreach Ministry.

Survivors include his daughters, Joann Francis (James) of Lake Charles, La., and Rebecca Tarawally (Alhaji) of Miramar, Fla.; two sons, Harold Robinson Sr. (Leeida) of Lake Charles, La., and Alvin Robinson of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Robinson; his parents, Earl and Olivia Spenser Robinson Sr.; his sons, Earl David, Curtis and Charles Robinson.
