Celebrity partner

SULPHUR — It’s not often a celebrity comes to town, and even less often to meet a local business partner.

As of June 15, John and Dottie Trahan, both natives of West Calcasieu, became co-owners of the Little Miss Liberty Crib Company with actress Jean Kasem who is the wife of Casey Kasem, host of Top 40 countdown.

The Trahans met her through their business.

Bronze Star recipient

John R. Carl, Tech. Fifth Grade of Lake Charles, has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations with the 84th Infantry Division in Europe.

He helped build and maintain a battalion observation post in Baal, Germany, while under heavy enemy artillery fire and kept up communications between headquarters and the frontline throughout the night.

The next day he and others captured 21 prisoners and gave first aid to wounded Americans.

‘Quit or be destroyed’

Man-made destruction hit the heart of the Japanese empire again today as the U.S. Navy sent its bold Third Fleet in to shell one big industrial city and 1,500 American and British carrier planes ripped up 60 airfields and other military installations from Kyushu to Tokyo itself.

American war power, parading one momentous week into another, piled up triumph after triumph in a message of steel and fire that the Allied surrender ultimatum meant what it said — quit or be destroyed.
