Visitation for Kevin M. “Fresh” Berry, 36, will be Saturday, July 18, 2020, from 10 a.m. with his funeral following at 11 a.m. at First Community Baptist Church, Pastor A.C. Jefferson. Kevin departed this life Thursday, July 9, 2020 in a local hospital.
Joseph Henry Bowdon Jr.
Joseph Henry Bowdon Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. J. Henry Bowdon, was born in Jackson, La., April 21, 1927. The Rev. Bowdon graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1944. He then attended McNeese State College, two years before receiving his B.A. degree from Centenary College in June of 1949. While at Centenary he was a member of the Centenary College Choir, president of the Methodist Student Movement for two years, a member of Gentry, and elected to the National Leadership Fraternity, ODK. His B.D. degree was received from Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University in June 1952.
On June 5, 1950, he married Virginia Kirkland. They have four children: Joseph Henry, III, a graduate of the Church Careers program at Centenary (1976); John Kirkland; and Kenneth Steven, a graduate of Centenary College (1978) with a B.S. degree in Geology; and one daughter, Virginia Louise Ellsworth, who also attended Centenary, receiving a B.S. in Biology and a degree in Veterinary Science at LSU.
Rev. Bowdon has served as associate pastor, First Methodist Church, Lake Charles, La., and Director of the McNeese Wesley Foundation, 1952-54; pastor of Live Oak Methodist Church, Watson, La., 1954-58; Moss Bluff Eastwood Methodist Churches, Moss Bluff, La., 1958-60; Abbeville Methodist Church, Abbeville, La., 1960-63; First Methodist Church, Plaquemine, La., 1967-69; Rayville United Methodist Church, Rayville, La., 1969-73; Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church, Shreveport, La., 1973-77; First United Methodist Church, DeRidder, La., 1977-80; Blackwater United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, La., 1980-83.
Rev. Bowdon has been a builder. Under his leadership, most of the churches he has served have entered into a building program. The following is a list of the building projects in which he has been involved during his ministry: new educational building, Live Oak Methodist Church; new church and parsonage, Moss Bluff Methodist Church, new church, Eastwood Methodist Church; remodeled parsonage, Abbeville Methodist Church; new church, Pecan Island Methodist Church; new education building, Plaquemine Methodist Church; installed elevator, Haynesville Methodist Church; stain glass windows, Rayville United Methodist Church; new gym and education building and relocated church, Mangum United Methodist Church; planned renovation of education building, DeRidder United Methodist Church; new sanctuary and new parsonage, Blackwater United Methodist Church; installing elevator and remodeling education building, First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles, La.
Rev. Bowdon has served in many ways through his church. He has served as secretary of the Louisiana Annual Conference Board of Temperance; as a member of the Conference Board of Social Concerns, the Conference Board of Evangelism; as a clergy representative of the Conference Board of the Laity; and as secretary of the Conference Board of Missions. He served for five years as secretary of the Louisiana Conference Council on Finance and Administration. He presently serves on the Conference Council on Ministries, the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Conference Board of Discipleship, and as the Louisiana Conference Coordinator of Scouting Ministries. For the last eight years he has taught in the Annual Conference License to Preach School in Baton Rouge. He has served as District Director of Camping, Evangelism, Christian Vocations, and Missions. Rev. Bowdon served as Chairman of the Baton Rouge-Hammond District Committee on the Ministry, a member of the Board of Trustees of Camp Istrouma, and as one of that District’s representatives on the Church Council of Centenary College. He has served as Trustee of the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation. He is a charter member of the Board of Directors of Live Oak Retirement Center, Shreveport, La., and still serves in that capacity. He presently serves in the Lake Charles District as Chairman of the Revitalization Committee, as a member of the District Committee of the Ministry, as District Coordinator of Stewardship, as a member of the District Council on Ministries, and as a trustee of Camp LeBlanc.
“Rev.,” as the Scouts call him, has been active in Scouting for many years as a leader. As a Scout, he received the Eagle Rank in Troop 5 sponsored by First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles, La., the church he presently serves. He served as a committeeman of Troop 21 and Pack 21 in Moss Bluff, La.; assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 80, Abbeville, La.; Clubmaster of Pack 423 and Scoutmaster of Troop 423, Plaquemine, La.; Scoutmaster of Troop 41, Haynesville, La.; assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 43, Rayville, La. He was appointed Scoutmaster of National Jamboree Troop 46 of the Norwella Council that attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Faragot State Park, ID in 1969. He attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania in 1973 as Scoutmaster of 26 scouts from Troop 43, Rayville, La. He has earned the Training Award, the Wood Badge Award and is the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow. He presently serves on the Executive Board of the Calcasieu Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Rev. Bowdon has always been active in community affairs in every community in which he has served. Presently he is a member of the Calcasieu Ministerial Association and is chairman of their Television Committee and is on the Executive Committee of Abraham’s Tent Association, a hot meal program sponsored by this group. He serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Gulf States Utilities, the Advisory Board of the Lake Charles Junior League, the Advisory Board of Bayou Girl Scout Council, the Calcasieu Kiwanis Club, the Labor, Management, Civic Leader Committee of Lake Charles. He served as one of the first Trustees of the new Humana Women’s Hospital in Lake Charles.
Rev. Bowdon has been a life-long supporter of Centenary College, inheriting his interest from his father, J. Henry Bowdon, a recipient of a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Centenary and a Trustee of the College for many years. He sent two sons to Centenary, for three years worked in establishing the Centenary Church Careers Program, and is presently responsible for five students attending Centenary, providing partial scholarships for three of these. For a number of years, he has been a generous supporter of the Great Teachers Fund.
Rev. Bowdon served as the Minister of Visitation at St. Luke Simpson for 23 years before moving to Sunnydale, Texas, to be near his daughter and grandchildren. He often spoke of the honor of preaching in the same pulpit as his father when he pastored at First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Kirkland Bowdon; three sons: Joseph Henry Bowdon III and wife, Jeanette; John Kirkland Bowdon and wife, Cindy; Kenneth Steven Bowdon and wife, Bobbye; one daughter, Dr. Virginia Bowdon Ellsworth and husband, Sam. He also has nine grandchildren: Keren Bowdon Pickard, John Daniel Bowdon, Abbye Bowdon Perez-Montes, Matthew Bowdon, Megan Bowdon Wilkinson, Allison Bowdon, Ryan Ellsworth, Lily Ellsworth, and Grace Ellsworth. Henry had five great grandchildren: Joshua Pickard, Hannah Pickard, Emily Adams, Zoe Adams, and William Bowdon. He is also survived by his loving sister Louise Bowdon Mayo, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Rev. Bowdon served churches throughout Louisiana. These appointments were Live Oak Methodist, Moss Bluff / Eastwood Methodist, Abbeville Methodist, Plaquemine First Methodist, Haynesville Methodist, Rayville Methodist, Mangum Memorial Methodist in Shreveport, First United Methodist in DeRidder, Blackwater United Methodist in Baton Rouge, First United Methodist in Lake Charles, First United Methodist in Houma, and St. Luke-Simpson UMC in Lake Charles.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Karl Klaus will officiate. Burial will in Graceland Cemetery. In keeping with current regulations, friends are requested to wear masks and social distancing is encouraged. ELTON — Louise Idell Carey-Clarence, 90, was called from labor to reward on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Louise was a resident of Elton, La. She was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in Plaisance, La., to the late Rudolph Carey and Emily Joseph-Carey. Louise was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Campbell at Golden Chain Baptist Church in Elton. The Rev. Dwayne Miller is the current pastor. Louise formerly served as Mother of the Church, Mission President, Pastor’s Aid President, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and Church Decorating Committee member. She was married to the late Louis Clarence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Clarence; both parents, Rudolph Carey and Emily Joseph-Carey; all of her siblings.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at Golden Chain Baptist Church, 1815 Martin Luther King Rd., in Elton, La. The Rev. Joel Green Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held in the church from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Eternal Rest Cemetery in Elton, La., directed by Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings. Margie F. Chapman
Memorial service for Clyde C. Chapman, 89, and his wife, Margie F. Chapman, 86, will be announced at a later date.
Mr. Chapman died Saturday, June 11, in a Baton Rouge hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident. His wife , Margie, died Sunday at her residence of injuries received in the same automobile accident.
Mr. Chapman was born in Texas but lived in the Kinder area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Corrections Officer at Angola State Prison until his retirement.
Mrs. Chapman was native and life resident of Kinder, and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
They are survived by a son, Ronnie Chapman of Iowa; and a daughter, Pam DuFour of Kinder; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Chapman is survived by three brothers, J.B. and Lynn Chapman of Hemphill, Texas, and Terry Chapman of DeQuincy; two sisters, Martha Granger of Sulphur, and Dianne Sittig of Fenton.
Mrs. Chapman is also survived by two sisters, Laddie Pelican and Shirley Credeur, both of Kinder; and a brother, Jimmy Savant of Elton.
Cremation for Mr. and Mrs. Chapman has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

Jerry Lynne Hollins, 82, of Lake Charles, La., devoted mother, wife, and friend, passed away surrounded by her family on July 14, 2020.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1937, in Lake Charles, to Mr. Charles Smith and Mrs. Katherine “Biddie” Kimball Smith.
Jerry Lynne attended Fourth Ward, Central School, and Lake Charles High School, graduating with the class of 1956, where she was a proud member of the Kilties all-girl marching drum corps along with many of her lifelong friends. Following high school, Jerry Lynne attended McNeese State University.
Jerry Lynne was an avid tennis player; she also loved reading and playing bridge. Her tennis and bridge friends were very dear to her. She was a member of the Junior League of Lake Charles, Krewe of Mystique, and Les Dilettantes, and an active volunteer at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, the Lake Charles Civic Symphony, the Lake Charles Ballet Society, and Art Associates of Lake Charles. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, serving on the Altar Guild for several years.
Jerry Lynne’s greatest joy was her family. With her first husband and children, she enjoyed entertaining friends at their family camp in Big Lake. Crabbing, fishing, and sailing were favorite camp activities. Jerry Lynne and her second husband travelled extensively. They would also escape the Louisiana heat, spending half of the year in Colorado Springs, Colo., where family and friends would come to visit nearly every week.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Hollins III; and first husband, Charles O. Noble III. She is survived by her son, Charles O. Noble IV and his wife Nicole; her daughter, Nancy Kimball Noble; granddaughter, Katherine Frances Faylor; and great-granddaughter, Scarlet Noble Faylor; and lifelong friend, Janey Barham.
The immediate family will have a private interment service and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Beatrice Woodard Kimball
Beatrice Woodard Kimball, age 93, a native and resident of DeQuincy, La., died on July 15, 2020, at her residence. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 70 years. Bea was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. As a young girl, she admired a home on Hall Street and said she would marry the man who bought her that house. In August 1946, she married James E. Kimball and they lived in that house until his death in 2010. Recently, when asked what she would like her obituary to say, she replied “Here lies Bea. Sat on the same corner for 70 years. Wise old owl.” Bea continued living in her home until her recent death.
Bea was predeceased by her parents, Lynn and Lela Woodard; four sisters, Jeanette Wilson, Edith Cooley, Frieda Lyons and Ethel Cain; two brothers, Carl Woodard and L.A. Woodard Jr; and one grandchild, Brandon Hoover.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith Ann Nelson and husband Alton of Houston, Texas, Carol Lynn Kimball of Houston, Texas, and Nora B Young and husband Ron of New Windsor, N.Y.; one son, James Thomas Kimball and wife Laura Beth of DeQuincy, La.; six grandchildren, Allan Nelson, Patrick Nelson and wife Angela, Kaitlyn Herron and husband Chris, Kaci Berry and husband Greg, Kiley Kimball and Travis Young; six great-grandchildren, Cole and Hannah Herron, Roald (Rollie) Nelson, Wyatt and Sawyer Berry and Anthony Young; three brothers, Gordon Woodard of Argyle, Texas; and Gene Woodard and Glen Woodard of DeQuincy, La.
During her last few years on this earth, Bea was attended by wonderful caregivers. Each caregiver had a special relationship with her and gave her much joy and happiness in her final years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of her caregivers – Valerie Larvadain, Connie Brown, Pearl Goode Thompson, Janet Maddox , Peggy Bellard, Vesta Shirley, Kim Bolton, Nita Suchanek, and especially Susan Royer, who was like a daughter to her.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 9 a.m. at the Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy, La., with the Rev. James Barrett officiating.

Beulah Mae Louviere, age 97, of Welsh, La., passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Beulah was born March 31, 1923, to Joseph and Claudia Benoit.
Beulah lived her first 87 years in Welsh and her last 10 years as a resident of Resthaven Nursing Home in Lake Charles. In 1989, she was featured in many papers for being an advocate for the elderly. She was also recognized and known for being the first person bringing the life line to Louisiana. Beulah worked for Golden Age Nursing Home in Welsh as an Activity Coordinator and Social Worker for 34 years. Having a passion for hobbies, she enjoyed shopping, traveling, sewing, coloring, painting, cooking and decorating. The most important people in her life that she loved dearly was her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are three sons, Will “Bill” Louviere (Vera) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ronnie Louviere (Jeanene) of Sulphur, Vernon Sonnier (Dale) of Welsh; one daughter, LaDonna Atwell (Mike) of Holmwood; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Claudia Benoit; her husband of 32 years, Will Louviere; one son, Richard “Dickie” Louviere (Bobbie); one daughter, Susan Derouen (Darrell); and two brothers, Amar Benoit (Alice and Lucy) and Dallas Benoit (Esta Mae).
Visitation will be held at Hixson funeral Home of Lake Charles on Saturday, July 18, 2020, beginning at 4 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resume Sunday, July 19, 2020, at 11 a.m. until service time. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at 2 p.m. in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery in Welsh immediately following.

It is with heaviest of hearts the family of Judith Lynn Pichon, 57, a resident of Lake Charles, former resident of Slidell, La., and native of Hartford, Conn., announces her passing on July 14, 2020, in a local hospital.
Judy as she was affectionately known was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and ferociously loyal friend. Judy possessed a strong work ethic and fought a tireless battle with numerous health conditions. She was employed by Wal-Mart for 24 years prior to her retirement. She became a licensed florist, and both excelled and enjoyed arranging floral tributes. Judy was a huge Disney fan and loved Beauty and the Beast.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Beverly Spear; and brother, Kenneth Spear.
Judith leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving husband, Larry Edward Pichon; children, Patrick Pichon and wife Jillian and Meghan Pichon and partner Amber Henry; grandchildren, Ellie Pichon and Finn Pichon; siblings, Katherine Spear Skinner and husband James, Daniel Spear, Cheryl Hughes and husband Danny, Jonathon Spear, James Muir and Paul Muir; and a host of nieces, nephews and fur babies.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 18, 2020, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Judy will be cremated.

Grace Simon Roe
Grace Simon Roe, 76, a resident of Lake Charles, passed from this life on July 14, 2020, in a local hospital.
Grace was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a passionate watcher of the cooking channel. She will be forever remembered for her big heart and generous nature. She was devoted to her family, loved spending time with them, and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren the most.
Mrs. Roe was preceded in death by her parents, Morris Simon Sr. and Mary Louise Kibodeaux Simon; daughter, Vicki Welch Case; grandson, Jake Welsh, brothers, A.J. Simon, Rudy “Butch” Simon and Glen Simon.
Grace is survived by her children, David Welch wife Carolyn and Tammy Welch and partner Crystal Taylor; grandchildren, Jaime Welch, Chance Case and Michael Kent; great-grandchildren, Bradly Welch, Sidney Welch, Hayden Welch, Taylor Case and Victoria Case; siblings, Judy Miller and husband Robert, Morris Simon Jr. and wife Linda, Jimmy Simon and wife Bonnie, Roger Simon and wife Vicky, Larry Simon and wife Dawn, and Chris Simon and partner Lefty.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Roe will be cremated.

Mary Helen Rozas, 76, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
She was born on March 15, 1944, in Crowley, La., to Leonard and Louise Faulk.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was employed by Walmart and One Hour Martinizing.
She is survived by her husband, Morris J. Rozas; children, Davy Lee Thacker, son, John Wesley Thacker (Terri), and Jeffery Wade Thacker (Kelly); nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Hank Thacker; parents; and siblings, Irma Jane Faulk and Ogden John Faulk.
Her funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
Lou Ella Duplechain will officiate. Burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m.

Linda Faye Thibodeaux, 69, died Wednesday July 15, at home. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today, July 17, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
