Martha Simmons, the first COVID-19 patient admitted to Christus Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital, was discharged Friday after spending nearly three months — including four weeks on a ventilator — fighting the virus. During Simmons’“CODE HOME” celebration, hospital associates, physicians and leaders lined the hall of the front of the hospital to give her a proper send-off. She was also greeted by her family and fellow church members at the hospital entrance, and members of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office gave her a special escort home.
