Calcasieu DA’s office closed except for essential personnel

The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office has announced it will be closed during this time of widespread concern over the COVID-19 outbreak.

The office will staff essential personnel only.

For the time being, the DA’s office will maintain essential personnel needed for the limited court schedule and emergencies only.

Personnel will continue to take phone calls but the office will be closed to normal business matters.

The 14th Judicial District Court earlier postponed all criminal jury trials through March 27 due to an order from the Louisiana Supreme Court regarding all courts throughout the state.

Further delays may be ordered by the state Supreme Court in the weeks to come.

Those parties affected were to receive written notice of their new court appearance at the address provided to the court, the office of the CPDAO said.

All criminal initial appearances for adults and juveniles, arraignment for incarcerated individuals and all bond hearings will continue as scheduled and will be conducted with the use of telephone or video conferencing.

The closure of the DA’s office will be re-evaluated on a daily basis as all local, state and federal briefings distribute guidelines for the public.

All communications to the public will be posted on the DA’s website at www.calcasieuda.com, via its Facebook page, and through media.
