Two arrested for
robbing passenger

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people accused of robbing a man who had just won $15,000 while gambling.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said the victim said he left a local casino in a taxi and informed the driver — later identified as Brandon Kimberly Grant, 40, 633 Louisiana Avenue — he had just won $15,000.

The victim said he fell asleep in the taxi and was awoken by a man — later identified as Fergus A. Bushnell, 41, 2820 Caroline St. — pulling him out from inside the taxi then striking him several times. He said the money and two cell phones were taken, Vincent said.

He also told deputies he saw a handle in the waistband of Bushnell’s pants, which he believed to be the handle of a gun.

Vincent said the man attempted to get back into the taxi by grabbing the handle of the door, at which time Grant drove away, dragging the man for a short distance. The victim was able to give a description of the truck he said Bushnell fled the scene in.

Worker accused of
stealing from store

A Moss Bluff woman has been arrested for stealing more than $60,000 worth of merchandise from her employer, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said detectives were dispatched to the store on U.S. 171 on Wednesday in reference to an employee who was stealing from the store.

Vincent said the asset protection investigator at the store said the employee, Nicole L. Reeves, 35, 1035 Wedgewood Drive, had been stealing merchandise from the store for about one year.

During the investigation detectives viewed surveillance footage that showed Reeves walking out of the store on numerous occasions with unpaid merchandise.

When detectives spoke with Reeves she confirmed she stole more than $60,000 worth of merchandise from the store, Vincent said.

Reeves was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $25,000. She was released on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Clayton Davis.
