VFW scholarships

Champagne-Businick VFW and its Auxiliary Post 2130 are announcing the following scholarships. The Continuing Education Scholarship is open for applicants age 18 or older who wish to pursue a college degree or Vocational training. Applicants must be one of the following: a current VFW Auxiliary member, or the spouse, son, or daughter of a current member. The applicant must have been a member of the VFW Auxiliary for one year prior to the application. All applications must be submitted to VFW Auxiliary National Headquarters by Feb. 15. The Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest Scholarship recognizes budding artists in grades 9-12. The local entry winner will advance to the district and then to the state levels for judging. The first place state winner will compete at the national level. The winning first place national entry will receive $15,000. Other awards range from $7,500 to $500. Other scholarships available for graduating high school students or students with a G.E.D. who plan on pursing a college degree or Vocational training:
The $1,000 Borel Scholarhip is open for students who have family members in the VFW Auxiliary and have been accepted for entry in the fall. Requirements include: completed entry form, verification of family income (used to determine need), a 500- word essay based on goals, transcripts, and volunteer work. The winning student will receive a $1,000 scholarship payable for two semesters or $500 each semester. Deadline is May 30.
The Odie Lee Gossett Scholarhip is availalble for high school graduates entering college or vocational training in the fall. The $1,000 scholarship is judged on the following criteria: Having family members in the VFW Auxiliary, accepted for entry in the fall, completed a 300-500 word resume, active in school activities, volunteer work, grades, and letters of recommendation. Deadline is May 9.
