Matthew Steven Amos

June 30, 1977 – Dec. 26, 2019

Matthew Steven Amos entered into eternal rest on Dec. 26, 2019. He was a life long resident of Lake Charles and Westlake. He was living in West Monroe, La. Matthew is survived by his parents, Patrick Steven and Renee Lynn Amos of Lake Charles, Michael J. Amos of Moss Bluff and his children Dustan, Brynnlee, Matthew, Patrick Ty and Ava Michelle. His extended family includes aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Lane Amos; grandparents, Robert Franklin and Mae Amos, Bill J and Patricia Dawn Barnes; and great-grandmother, Lillian Newman Ewalt.

Matthew owned and operated Amos Trucking in Westlake, La., and was working as a construction worker in West Monroe.

Known to many as Flipper (due to his very large feet), Big A and Amos, he was a gentle giant. He loved people and would help anyone. His heart was as big as he was.

He will be interred at Consolata with his son, Tony Lane Amos.

The greatest accomplishment of his life was accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We rest in confidence that he arrived safely.

A brief service of memory will be observed at Glad Tidings Church, 3400 Texas St., Lake Charles, La., at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2020. Join us for praise, worship as we share our faith.

Curley Cormier

Curley Cormier, 93, of Welsh, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020.

Curley was a Member of First Baptist Church of Welsh and served has a Deacon for over 40 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in Okinawa. Curley retired from Century Link.

Survivors are his daughter, Gwen Breland; son, Darrell Cormier; four grandchildren, Brandie Ollervidez and husband Philip, April Courville, Corey Cormier and Kehara Cormier; brothers, Melvin Cormier and Burley Cormier and Wilford Cormier; sister, Ida Ardoin; and man he considered as a son, Jay Courville.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Elnora Cormier and Ada Gibson.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Welsh. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday and will resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

Anneliese Susanna Fruge, 87, of Sulphur, died Sunday, Jan. 5. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. today, Jan. 8, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery, Carlyss, under the direction of Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

David Hickman, 81, of Knight Community, died Saturday, Jan. 4. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Grace Church in DeRidder. Burial will be at Almadane Cemetery under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Funeral service for Brenda G. Morris Hollis, 76, of DeRidder, will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home, DeRidder. Burial will be in Beauregard Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.

Neva Jean Irion

Funeral service for Neva “Jean” Irion will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church Doyline with the Rev. Paul Pearson officiating. Interment will follow at Doyline Cemetery in Doyline, La., under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, La. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, La.

Neva was born Sept. 25, 1932, in Kinder, La., and entered into rest Jan. 7, 2020, in Minden, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mac and Pauline Lafargue husband William Benton Irion Sr.; sister, Gertrude S. Brown; and brothers, Charles M. “Cooney” Lafargue and Rodrick J. Lafargue.

She is survived by her sons, William Benton Irion Jr. of Doyline, Mark Alan Irion of Doyline, and Scott Bennett Irion and wife Bonnie of Blanchard; daughters, Lynette Faye Thibodeaux and Ed Barham of Shreveport, Marla Adele Bardwell of Doyline, Valorie Dolores Hunt and husband David of Doyline; sisters, Ada Belle Davis and husband Billy of Welsh, Mackie Poe of DeRidder; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Curtis Earl Jackson

Curtis Earl Jackson, 54, of Newton, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 2. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at New Life Church in Jasper, Texas. Burial will be at Ford Cemetery, Newton, under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Richard Mayeux

Richard Mayeux, 45, of Westlake, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020. He was born to his parents, Fred and Tomiko Mayeux on Feb. 17, 1974, in Ft. Gordon, Ga. Richard loved mini trucking with his Brothers of Smooth Innovations. He loved watching Power Block TV, Counting Cars, and various other car related shows. His favorite car was a 1972 El Camino. He loved teaching his students welding and giving his students the skills for life. He loved to steam his crawfish for his friends and family, and everyone loved it. He was a jack of all trades, and as he would say “A Master of None.” He loved to eat and would use his granddaughter Aubree as an excuse to eat out. His son Raiden was his sidekick and you never saw one without the other. He never met a stranger and always had a helping hand to anyone who reached out and was in need. He always had to be unique in everything that he did. He had a huge heart and loved everyone. Most of all, he loved his wife Mysti and was proud of his children, and loved them very much.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 15 years, Mysti Mayeux; grandparents, Raphael and Stella Mayeux of Lafayette; his parents, Fred Mayeux and wife Priscilla of Broussard, Tomiko Mayeux of Opelousas; three sons, Jake Mayeux of Baton Rouge, Raiden Mayeux, Alex Mayeux and daughter, Aubree Mayeux, both of Westlake; one sister, Frances and husband Dustin Gay; and nephew, Rusty Gay of Sunset, La.

A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at 2 p.m. with Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake.

Lawrence Miller, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 5. A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Water’s Edge Gathering in Lake Charles, under the direction of Matthews & Son Funeral Home.

Vida Mae Miller

Vida Mae Miller, 87, of Sulphur, died Monday, Jan. 6. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, Sulphur. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Sulphur Memorial.

Horace Andrew Moody

Horace Andrew Moody, 80, of Lake Charles, passed away at 11:58 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Moody was born on Sept. 11, 1939, in Greensboro, Ga., where he lived until settling his family in Lake Charles in 1967. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Moody worked at PPG for 33 years as an operator and machinist and retired in 2001. He was past President of the Machinists Union. Mr. Moody was a Godly man and was a dedicated member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He was a devoted husband who took special, loving care of his wife until her passing in 2017. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his yard.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Barbara Courville of Baton Rouge, Mylenda Boudreaux (Dewey) of Lafayette, Penny Vincent (Steve) of Baton Rouge, and Joy Liles (David) of Athens, La.; brother, Phillip Moody of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ethel Marie Moody; infant son, Horace Andrew Moody Jr.; parents, Emma and William Moody; siblings; son-in-law, Raymond Courville; and grandson, Christopher Allen.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Dartez will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Friday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.

Lehman Myers, 63, passed away at his residence on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Charles Raymond “T- Boy” Talen II was born Sept. 15, 1980, and passed away Jan. 4, 2020, at the age of 39.

He is survived by his mother, Christine Julia Barlow; and step-father, Robert Barlow of DeQuincy; fiance’ Ashli Lyn Waldrep; brother, Tracy Renfrow and wife Lauren; half sisters, Kimberly Talen Fruge and husband Troy and Sonya Talen Cormier and husband Craig; step-brothers, Russell Barlow and Jason Barlow and wife Anna; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Raymond Talen; grandparents, Joseph (Buddy) Moore, Georgia Harrison Sutton, Charles Marion Talen and Genevieve LeBlanc Talen.

A private graveside service will be held at Masonic Cemetery, DeQuincy, La.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth St., DeQuincy, La.

Randy Joe Wilbanks, 60, of DeRidder, died Saturday, Jan. 4. Funeral service will be noon Saturday, Jan. 11. Burial will be at Occupy 1 Cemetery, Pitkin, under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
