Product review: Dimensional Magic Mod Podge

Last week when I made magnets, I used the Dimensional Magic Mod Podge. While researching embellishments for the magnets, I read the product description, “The stay-put formula will not sag or run making it perfect for jewelry, paper crafting and accenting home décor items.”
I thought it would be great for my magnets so I purchased a bottle. I imagined following the lines on the bee wings and those lines becoming 3D. I also imagined the salmon roe on the warship sushi would look like real roe with the use of this product. Once I tried it, it didn’t do what I imagined for the bee wings so I did not use it for the sushi. It did stay within the boundaries of the wings but I was a little disappointed in how thin the liquid was and that I could not get 3D lines.
This small disappointment prompted me to try it again for this week’s craft with making some jewelry. It says that it is “perfect for jewelry.” I grabbed two rectangular necklace bezels I had purchased some time ago, a seashell that I gathered with a friend at Holly Beach and small seashells cut off an old necklace, a crystal from a goody bag given to me when I visited Flock Of Five a couple years ago on an Art Walk, glitter, purple and teal card stock, and Aileen’s Tacky Glue.
I cut a piece of purple and teal cardstock to fit inside the bezel and glued it down with tacky glue. After the paper dried, I glued down my crystal on the purple cardstock; laid out my seashells and glued them down as well.
After all my items dried, I used the Dimensional Magic Mod Podge to fill in the empty space. For my crystal, after applying the Dimensional Magic, I went back and sprinkled purple glitter over the Mod Podge before it dried. It turns out that I didn’t need the paper underneath the crystal as the glitter covered the paper.
As the Dimensional Magic dried, I noticed some spaces where the liquid created a pocket. I went back and filled in the pockets on both pieces and reapplied glitter. After drying overnight, I woke up to find that the seashell piece looked great, but the crystal piece still had pockets.
I went ahead and added my jumper ring so that these pieces will be ready to add a chain to complete the necklace. I will go back and fill the pockets in my crystal piece until I’m satisfied that it looks good.
I think that the Dimensional Magic is a good replacement for resin when you want to fill a bezel for a necklace, bracelet or earrings. It is also good for adding dimension to paper pieces but do not expect to get 3D lines or spheres.
Overall, I’m fairly happy with this product and I am looking forward to experimenting more.
As always, happy crafting!
