Logan Kyle was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to murdering his pregnant wife in October 2018.

A Fort Polk soldier, who was arrested in Calcasieu Parish last year after officials found the body of his pregnant wife in the trunk of a car he was riding in, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the 2018 murder.

SPC Logan Kyle, 22, of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, pleaded guilty to premeditated murder of his pregnant wife, 22 year-old Shelena Kyle. Shelena had also been a member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team at the time of her death.

During his general court-martial at the Vernon Parish military installation, Kyle was immediately convicted by a military judge and sentenced to life in prison without parole. His rank was reduced to E-1, and he was ordered to forfeit all pay and allowances in accordance with his dishonorable discharge.

Kyle was arrested in October 2018 after Calcasieu authorities conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle he was traveling in. During a news conference on the day of the arrest, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said that deputies had received information from Beauregard Parish authorities that a man and a woman were “driving around with a body in their car, looking for a place to dump it.”

Deputies located the car on N. Franklin Street in Lake Charles and located Shelena’s body in the trunk.

The car was being driven by Kyle’s girlfriend, 24 year-old Sarah M. Parker. Parker’s toddler-aged children were also in the car, according to authorities.

Parker was later charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles during the commission of a felony, in addition to her charges of obstruction of justice and failure to report a homicide. As of Wednesday, she remains in the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

At the time of the arrest, Mancuso said it was believed that Kyle had killed Shelena at their home on the installation.

According to Fort Polk spokesperson Kim Reischling, Kyle had joined the U.S. Army in 2014 and had been assigned to Fort Polk in February 2017.
